Stupid Idiot...

Answered a job ad yesterday, talked to the guy a few minutes ago. He asked why I was looking for a job (Why does anyone look for a job?) I told him I had just moved into town...and then he asked what kind of work I had done in the past, so I told him...and then he starts off on how he doesn't think I would be a good candidate for his company, that I would be too high a risk and how I'm not willing to make a commitment to training for the job....oh, and I have an attitude problem (All this from "I'm looking for a job because I'm new in town and I've previously worked in retail and customer-service positions and done some occasional banquet serving on the side" wow...yeah, this guy's good.) Then he starts in with something about living with my boyfriend and bringing my personal life into work, and what if I get married? (Hmmm...and I never mentioned living arrangements, I don't have a boyfriend, I'm in no danger of getting married anytime in the forseeable future.)

Oh yeah, and somehow I didn't seem to be the kind of person who would advocate chiropracty and other alternative healing methods...(The position was one of those where they set up a booth or table in a grocery store or something and talk to people who pass by, giving out pamphlets about various traditional and non-traditional medical treatments for various injuries and ailments.)

So he keeps going on about how my life is in transition and things could always change and I might move back to where I came from, or do this or do that...and I was ready to just hang up on him when he took a breath.

I thanked him for his time and for assuming that I was a high-risk candidate because I just moved here and because "my life is in transition and things can change" (You moron...everyone's life is always in some kind of transition, thigns can change anytime for anyone)

Ok, so yeah...I gave him an attitude in the end...but ya know, assume something about someone and they'll often prove you right. But I didn't need that. I don't need some guy with a chip on his shoulder to be making all these little asusmtions about me from knowing absolutely nothing.

So likely he would have been a really unfun boss too. Well I don't want your stupid job anyway! So nya nya nya.

Sayonara stupid.

Ok, I feel better now...Off to go look elsewhere.

That's discrimination....

Yeah, I wouldn't want a job from this guy either after that attitude. However, you might want to contact your local EEOP or Labor Board or whatever it's called, and tell them about your interview.

As far as I know, questions about marital status, etc, are regarded as inherently discriminatory and can set him up for a big suit/fine. I'm not sure if the authorities in charge will do anything about it if you tell them you don't want to work with him after the interview. I'm pretty sure his questioning and insinuations are illegal, however.

What a wad! You know, legally he's not supposed to ask those questions!
