Wanderlust, Parties (Or Lack Thereof, Actually) And Stuff....
I'm reading through journal entries of people who got to go to Burning Man...I REALLY wanted to go but since I was unemployed all summer, well....I couldn't. I swear, I will go next year. I am bound and determined.
I'm pondering my options for travel to/from Nationals in New Orleans. Right now, I'm thinking about flying down and hopping a train back. I really would prefer to take the train just because well, I like it better...it's more relaxing, less hassle, and there is of course, the possibility of taking pictures of train stations.
However, If I want to get to NO on the 26th, without leaving on Christmas day...not that it would bother me much, but it would bother my family, and besides, I would miss out on going to Grandma Jane's house for dinner. I don't know...maybe I will think about hopping the train on the 25th.
Let's see...one-way plane tickets....checking Expedia.com
Why the hell is it such a difficult thing to check one-way prices? I click the one-way button, and it keeps throwing me over to round-trip and telling me there's an error. Grrr. That's it...I'm using another site. Let's try Orbitz.com...
Harrisburg-New Orleans...hmm...$204 (all other tickets are over $500), 2 layovers...Philly and Atlanta. Last time I had a layover in Atlanta, I ended up being there for about 6 hours waiting for them to bring in another plane.
Wait...there are others under $300...all with 2 layovers, either Atlanta or St Louis plus one other city..Boston, Cincinati, Pittsburgh, Philly....Next....
Oh, now I have to register? Geez.
Philly-New Orleans...ooh, here's one for $104! One Layover. In Atlanta. Blargh. Why Atlanta? And it doesn't get into NO til 11pm. No thanks.
Hmmmmm....BWI-NO...this site is so slow. Actually, the computers here are slow....hmm, $193 on Delta. All with a stop in Atlanta. I'm beginning to wonder ifthe travel Gods want me to go to Atlanta for some reason (That WAS the other possible site for Nationals.)
Let's check an old standby...Newark International...(I'd be willing to bet the best price from there will be on American and include a stop in Dallas.) I haven't been to EWR since I left to go back to school sophomore year. This site is SLOW. Not that Anyone else really wants to read about my search for a flight. Who cares...you're gonna anyway. While it's on my mind...AOHell won't launch AIM express. I want to talk to people. I want to discuss. Dammit, I want my search results.
I wonder how they determine the airport codes for cities whose codes don't make some sense to their names? (New Orleans is MSY)
This sounds ok....Newark-New Orleans (Stop in Atlanta....no matter what) $236 and I'd be in NO by 930AM on the 26th. Sounds good. But would Mom be willing to take me to the airport, leaving home at 230 in the morning. No.
I'm seriously tempted to just leave Christmas day. However...I would have to leave by 140 in the afternoon. I really don't know that Mom would be too jazzed about that. $315 round trip. Wait...it's cheaper to travel the day AFTER Christmas? (Fare drops to $253)
I would prefer to take the train, and either way, I'm gonna Amtrak it home, but I'm gonna have to see about getting down there.
On the other hand...my mom is still worried about air travel in general I think...maybe if I played the safety card, along with the fact that it costs
In other news, in 2 weeks, I'm starting a class in tax preparation so I can work for Jackson-Hewitt doing basic tax returns during the tax season. All I need to pay for is a $59 book.
My right sneaker is tied too tight.
I'm thnking about hotel options....Do I see about crashing in the AO room, getting a room with a bunch of people who are planning to pack it in, or my other idea....find 3 other people who don't want to pack a room, but don't necessarily want a quiet room. Actually, I think I want to have a party room this time aruond....or at least a room that has a party or two, but not on New Year's Eve. I want to be free to just party-hop then.
Ok...looking into other travel options. Because I can. Film at 11.

You'll probably have to go to their website, a lot of times their fares don't show up on the other reservation systems.
Flight Info
Also, Atlanta is the base for Delta airlines, so almost all eastern flights on Delta lay over in Atlanta because they have more planes leaving from there plus more crew etc. Baltimore is the hub for US Air I believe, so there are a lot more flights leaving from there.
