I really don't want to be at work...but when does anyone? The calls have mostly sucked today, but it's really slow. I started out with a complete schitzo first thing and then had a couple of unreasonably long calls, as well as a minor celebrity "sighting." i like going several minutes between calls (3...2...wow, I thought I jinxed myself there...)

I woke up this morning far later than I intended to go do stuff I needed to do, but in plenty of time to get to work on time...or so I thought. So the bus is scheduled to meander by at 1056, right? Yeah that's what I thought. I'm just about to cross Northern parkway and the bus comes zipping past. I check the time...it's like 1044...I rechecked the schedule again later- yes. I was right, the bus was 10+ minutes early

Soooooo....I tried not to freak out too much. I'm on thin ice at work right now for being late and I could NOT afford to be late again...especially on a weekend. I think of calling people and whatnot, but then it hits me...duh. I can get a cab. So It takes me 15 minutes before a cab actually stops. One problem...I don't have cash on me, and I had left my bank card at work last night (how the hell did I do that? Whatever, I have it now.) SO...I get a cab, I talk to the cab driver and I'm like "ok, so I need to go to blah blah blah...and there's just one thing, I need to stop at the bank to get money to pay. there's one just down the road." (I've done this before, it's never been a problem.) Cab driver's like "Uh, no. What if the bank's out of money?" Out of money? So I'm like 'I've done this efore, it wasn't a problem in the past, I'll leave my backpack and cell phone in the cab while I run into the bank blah blah blah...no difference.

I got a smidge hysterical. Cause well, Id have been REALLY up a creek if I were late today. I tried to explain that if I couldn't take a cab, I couldn't get to work, I'd be fired and whatnot...he just shrugged.

Yeah, I realize, I'm in the middle of a city, people are dishonest, whatever...that line of thinking isn't working for me. The guy is like "That's all. Bye." And drives away.

So I'm freaking out, crying and screaming and acting like a 3 year old....I actually screamed "Fuck You.' at the driver before he drove off.

So I called back to the house and in between hysterical sobs, I asked Dave to give me a ride to the bank, he offered to give me a ride to work, we stopped at the bank on he way so I have money to get home now and everyhing is ok...except that I'm at work. For another 2 hours.

*Sigh*

oh my gosh, hon, i'm sorry you had such a crappy morning. sometimes, tho, it feels very healing to cry and scream 'FUCK YOU' at the top of your voice to offensive, stupid people. maybe if you tried that more often you'd have fewer encounters with stupid people at the bus stops :-P

Beh. Doesn't it feel like our lives are right out of the Twilight Zone sometimes?! Hey, trust me on this...having a dog guide...I know all about jerky cab drivers. We have some here in Erie, too, but (fortunately) not nearly so many as we had in Dallas. Glad you finally got it worked out. I'd say file a complaint, but what good would it have done? You'd probably get the same "they're independent contractors and can do what they like" line of crap that I have gotten. For a service that's supposed to be a convenience, taxicabs can really piss me off!

Hey, on a totally unrelated note (not to bring up crappy work, bring your work home, and play "Can you help me with my broken computer"...I know that story, believe me), but you're the first person I can think of that might know. Any idea how well Voiceover works with other apps (i.e. Appleworks or iWork 05)? Cause if it actually does useful things with what could be very useful applications, that'd clinch the deal for me next computer when it's computer-buying time (I've already told Melanie she's getting a Mini next time I upgrade her machine). Promise I won't be an annoying whiny bastard customer on your phone!

oh geez...i wish i could answer that one, but at this point it's an honest "i don't know" voice over is supposed to be fully integrated into well, pretty much every aspect of the OS in tiger but i haven't so much as seen it yet. so....in theory...yes. it works with everything, reading text to you, menus, all the fancy schmancy jazz you see on the website. in practice...all i can say is that i can let you know when i'm able to actually find out. which will probably be....well, no earlier than friday but being as i'm in tech support, i oughta know in a few months...lol
