Jun. 16th, 2006 01:57 pmSooo....
Um, no interenet at the house yet. Tuesday. It's gonna happen, I just know it. I can feel it. I'm getting a vibe that we're gonna have DSL. Oh wait...I called up and told them to do it. Nevermind.
Last night...the interfaith service for Gay Pride week at the UU Church on Charles street. It rocked. Thought there was some serious WTF-ness....
The theme of the service was "freedom to love", and Lady Katherina was going to speak from a Muslim perspective (apparently, she'd practiced Islam for about 10 years at some point), but she gets up and says that at the last minute, someone else was asked to speak.
So this other lady starts speaking and first of all starts asking for donations of somehting that is a "cure for all known illnesses" and passes around a flyer for some black seed powder that looked like a page out of a health food catalog. And then tells a story about being wrongfully arrested for being a suspected terrorist, and how she's a dancer and she will never dance for the USA and will find her way to the white house, and has had 11 stillborn children. And we must all worship Allah and praise Allah and Allah created us and we should all recite a prayer with her (in Arabic. no English translation. sorry, I don't say a prayer when I have no idea what I'm saying
The story was really extremely incoherent. And if she was treated badly because she was thought to be a terorist, that's wrong, and if she has had so many stillborn children, that really is very sad...but what did it have to do with the evening?
Maybe that sounds insensitive? It's not my intention. It's just that the two were unrelated, and the diversion took away from the issue at hand, just as much as it would have been a detraction if someone got up in the middle of a service for the cause of mistreated Muslisms and started talking about the rights of gay people.
In other news, I have news. Not my personal news but i'm part of it. And it's kinda a big thing. Could be anyway. But I'm not going to post details about that until all involved have had a chance to hear first.
but it's cause for excitement. Or something.
Logoff time. Blasted library computer.
