Must have done something right, they offered me a job. More like an audition. If you passed the first unpaid day, they hired you.
Guess what the job is? Turned out to be mostly door-to-door fundraising. Woohoo! Or not. Not only that....but what boils down to comission-based pay. You get paid $64/day, and 35% of what you raise as you go door to door, they expect you to raise at least $90/day. The more you raise, the faster you can advance in the organization. Any other positions were based out of Silver Spring. They failed to mention this over the phone or on their job ad. Oh, and there's some getting people to write postcards or make phone calls to their senator.
Yeah, and then the interview itself...the guy doing the interview couldn't even answer the questions I asked based on information that's prominently displayed on their website. I asked about their work with pecific organizations and his answer was "Uhhhh....some of their members are on our board of trustees or something..."
So not impressed. So not taking the job.

Date: 2006-03-20 10:15 pm (UTC)Advancement in a sales organization is a very difficult thing to actually get a feel for. Usually the best money to be made is made by the people on the front lines and if supervisors are offered any commission opportunities at all (for meeting team goals) it is highly unprofessional to talk about it because it compromises your ability to supervise. Quite often it's a case of "those who can't play, coach" or those who burnt out or those who sucked up enough. The best performers stay out in the field because somebody's gotta get the work done.
Best of luck with the next round *hugs*.

Date: 2006-03-20 10:20 pm (UTC)I've found out enough about the organization to see that they are a legitemate group- i've found out about the projects that they're working on and what they've done in the past...i just think that it was badly presented and the guy running the towson office doesn't exactly have his ducks in the same basket or something
it doesn't suck any less though *hugs*
