Ladies, in learning how to read you are doing yourself a great disservice, giving up your power and denying your true femininity.
From The Alphabet Versus The Goddess by Leonard Shlain, page 152
"Illiterate women were at an obvious disadvantage in dealing with literate men. Those few women who did become literate surrendered a considerable portion of what power they had because they were now using a method of perception that reinforced their masculine side at the expense of their feminine. And instead of becoming more aggressive, they became more disoriented, cut off from the true roots of their strength, and they deferred to the male element in the society."
I read two chapters rom the middle of the book...it was fairly painful stuff. Lenny also doesn't get his mythology straight- he includes the Muses as followers of Dionysus??? (Okay, if someone has seen this in mythology anywhere please enlighten me, but a brief googling of Dionysus and the Muses only returns pages that happen to have both Apollo/the Muses on the same page with Dionysus.
