In a store as big as the Barnes and Noble at the Harbor, one would think that 1. someone in the store knows what Theogeny is and 2. there would be a copy aailable.
thing is...I can walk to the nearest B&N...I have to take a train or bus to the nearest borders. (B&N's computer said they had it in stock...but it was nowhere to be found.)
eh...I figure I'm going up to towson tomorrow. B&N there has a copy of it on hold for me. I'll try to get it at Borders up there though, because then I get credit on my Borders card.
oh...and by any chance, do you know where I might find a copy of Kerenyi's Apollo: The Wind, The Spirit and The God...for less than $100?
Barnes and Noble and Amazon both have it listed used for like $135...which is insane for a 76-page softcover book

Inter Library Loan is the only place that I know of. It's been out of print for quite some time, and I don't think very many English versions were made. Or you could check in at some of the Hellenic groups and stuff...somebody there might be willing to sell a copy for a more reasonable price.
I owe lots of money for late library books right now, can't use that for the moment. And I really would like to have my own copy. (Some books, I just don't *want* to borrow, ya know?
Yeah, I know what you mean...I tried to get my hands on a copy for a long time too. What you could do though is get a copy from the Library or something, and photo copy each page?
Yeah, you would think. If the Barnes and Noble near you is anything like the one near me, the missing copy of Theogeny is probably in the graphic novel section (NOTHING is ever where its supposed to be!)
Personally, I really don't expect much from large bookstore chains. Although, come to think of it, Borders really impressed me once. I had seen this book there that I thought Alex would really like. I couldn't remember the title, or the author. In other words, I was the customer retailers love to hate: "do you have this thing, by that guy? It's a book." All I could tell them was that the art was done by cutting pieces of construction paper of various colors. She took me straight to it.
it's one of those big, famous classics of Ancient Greek Literature by some cranky farmer dude named Hesiod. It's often published in a single volume with his other Big, Famous classic (TM), Works and Days.
It's one of those things that someone in such a large bookstore should at least recognize the title of.
every bookstore puts it in a different section. B&N says it should be in Poetry....Borders puts it under history, I've seen it filed under Literature and Fiction...
