Aug. 16th, 2006 12:32 pmOn email lists with rules about cutting quoted emails down to only the directly quoted parts and stuff like that...
I really have to wonder if constant "reminders" when people slip and forget to do so don't actually fuel the complaints that occur.
I'm on several very high-volume email lists where the messages, inclusing quotes and footers and all that fun stuff can get insanely long, there are no specific rules about trimming them and no one seems to ever complain, list owners never send out reminders etc.
And then I'm on other lists- which are of considerably lower traffic than the others- where there is such a rule, reminders are sent out regularly...and people seem to complain a lot more.
I understand the reason for the rule, but it seems to be a self-perpetuating thing.
