So...Um...Here's a really wacky idea.

For serious. Is there anyone in my readership who might be interested in going to Greece next year? It looks like [livejournal.com profile] sherara will already be there in the summertime.

Like, seriously. I'm going whether anyone else does or not. But it would be cool to travel with friends. I'm not asking anyone to carve their name in stone right now, I'm just curious who might be interested as an actual possibility.

If you're interested in doing dig work, I can hook you up with that sort of information, but I suspect that you might not be (us archaeologists are weird).

Anyway, if you're going to be in Greece when I am in Greece, I will totally hang with you. Shit, I'll even work my schedule around something like that. But yep. Always in Greece (just not this summer as I don't yet know German).

Greece is the most fabulous country ever.

so...you need to know german to go to Greece?

Actually, archaeological dig work could be interesting...(i once wanted to be an archaeologist.)

Oh, no! I have to go to Germany this summer to pick up German for academic purposes. I've been really put out by not knowing exactly what certain articles say, since so much scholarship in my field is in German.

And it's cool that you're interested in archaeological work. There's a site where you can look up fieldwork (archaeological.org). Even though they only post things for the current summer (generally), it gives you a good idea of the things that people are doing in and around the country.

I'll keep you updated on my summer plans for next year, in that case. I'm probably going to try for an early Iron Age dig, since that's my focus area. I did one in Pylos two years ago that was just fab, and I would have liked to go back except it's Bronze Age (which I could, frankly, care less about).
