As of today, I now have a portable dvd player...woohoo. It can also be hooked to a TV or computer. It plays dvd's, and audion, mp3 or WMP cd's.

I also have Kryzstoff Kieslowski's Trois Couleurs trilogy. I will be watching them tonight.

That's right, movies at the office. That's what I'm talking about.

In other news, for the third time in just about four years, I was within arm's length of being hit by a car today. I was downtown at Calvert and Lombard crossing the street, I heard a crunch behind me and turned around to see a car maybe two feet away, hitting the guy who was crossing right in back of me.

Luckily, this car was practically stopped at the red light when he was hit by the vehicle behind him, who also wasn't going too fast, the driver said her brakes failed. The guy hit was pulled partly under the car, but by all appearances only suffered some nasty scrapes on his arm. He was taken to the hospital for examination though. (I called police/ambulance). The drivers of both cars were ok.

I hope that he is ok and that there were no injuries that were not immediately apparent.

This has happened just a few too many times. The first time it happened, the person immediately behind me who did get hit was in a coma for four months. The second time, it was just me who managed to get out of the way as a car with no lights on came out of nowhere, speeding excessively, it passed me with inches to spare. This time, only apparently some scrapes, but I don't know that he had no other injuries.

Each time, it was thatclose to being me. My mom's always sworn that I'm...protected...somehow. Bad things happen and it misses me. Or somehow I just manage to be ok. Several years ago, my parents' Mustang's brakes gave out as I was getting out of the back seat. I got knocked down and it rolled over my ankle. I had some bruises and a really horrorific scrape across my ankle that was scarred for a few years, but when all was said and done, I'd rather have that happen again than ever endure another sprain. My mom questioned whether the car actually rolled over the ankle or not because it didn't cause any worse damage (Believe me, that car was on that ankle.

Or good things just fall into my hands. I get in a tight corner and things miraculously work out or blow over.

But at what expense? How often does someone get hurt because I didn't? How often does someone get a blow of bad luck when I get good?

I dunno. Just something to think about I guess.

But the real question is--

Is it region-free? Or can it be made to be region-free? (We have two that are (one portable, one sort-of-transportable), and one that isn't (home theater Sony thingy).

Oh, and about nearly being hit by speeding auto-s; I've come fairly close a time or two, and the only time a car actually ever impacted with my body was when I was walking behind some stupid broad in a parking lot and she wasn't, oh, I dunno, looking behind her before she threw it in reverse. But I seem to have the same sort of luck as you, anyway.

Is it region-free? Or can it be made to be region-free? (We have two that are (one portable, one sort-of-transportable), and one that isn't (home theater Sony thingy).

Don't think it is region free. But I may end up returning it for another model. I'm going to watch one or two more movies on it and see...the picture is gorgeously clear when it comes to video...but I watch mostly foreign movies, and text and subtitles are rather blurred and difficult to read.
