I could make plans at any time, but starting the new year is psychologically convenient. These are not resolutions. I already posted on that :-P (to be clear, that post was not an original from-my-brain idea.)

So...plans for the year include...

1. Getting evaluated for LASIK surgery.
2. Assuming eligibility for #1, having said surgery.
3. My hopes to make a trip to Greece this year will be hindered by #1. However, I will work on saving money in hopes to go in 2009.
4. Continue to work on the book of hymns to the gods.
5. Figure out a way to get these stories in my head written down in a way that decently conveys what I'm actually thinking.
6. Read more fiction...I think I got all of three novels in last year. No, four...Kushiel's Justice, Glory Road, Priestess of the White and Time Enough For Love (finally.) Oh, and Chronicle of a Death Foretold. Okay, five. I'd like to try and read at least one novel/month which aside from fitting it in among everything else I need to read, should not be difficult.

Two books that I definitely want to read:
The High king's Tomb
Kushiel's Mercy (out in June. Cover art is out now...it's pretty of course. Available for pre-order... http://www.amazon.com/Kushiels-Mercy-Jacqueline-Carey/dp/0446500046/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=generic&qid=1199327469&sr=1-1)

7. Move outta da ghetto ASAP. nuff said.
8. Harass Gavin (I sorta took an oath during the sumbel on Saturday night to do this. If I don't make good on my oath, it will have massively horrible implications for everyone who was present *nods*
9. Work on the CTP...which includes plans to read the following books (these books may be substituted with other books suggested/required by the CTP but these are the ones I so far plan to read):

Walden, Or life On The Pond by Thoreau (in progress)
In Search Of the Indo-Europeans by JP Mallory
How to Think About Weird Things, Critical Thinking For The New Age
Rites Of Worship by Isaac Bonewits (reread actually.)
The Druids by Stuart Piggot
Triumph Of The Moon by Ronald Hutton
Comparative Mythology by Jaan Puhvel
Early Greek Myth by Timothy Gantz (Kerenyi's Gods of the Greeks is on the list, but I've been through that one so many times, I'm gonna pick up another instead of rereading)
The Mabinogion (Not on the list per se, but it's mythology. and I've been wanting to red more Welsh stuff. so I'm gonna read it. Can't hurt, right?)
Vestal Fire by SJ Pyne
Raidho: A Runic Journey by Jennifer Smith
Arcana Mundi by George Luck (hey [livejournal.com profile] chironcentaur have you seen this one kicking aournd the house lately? I don't remember if I stashed it in my room or left it somewhere in the living room or...who knows...)

There are other books that I want to read of related subject matter mostly of a Hellenic slant. I will need to gather and compile a more thorough list.

10. Continue to do more Hellenic rituals.
11. Follow this blasted religion thing...wherever the gods may lead...

As sub-plans to #9, I intend to become more generally conversant in other mythologies, and work more intently in divination practice with runes and with the Greek alphabet oracle.

A break? Noooooooooo!

Seriously, her work is GOOD. If it were lacking, I'd say yeah, take more time between them.

Then again, I wonder if it could be any better if she did....

no, I am not going to think about it because i don't want to wait for the next book!!

while i agree that her work is damned good, i can't imagine that working oneself like that is necessarily a good thing.

unless, of course, she's been struck by a shot of creativity that just cannot be calmed...in which case, i know the best thing is to just ride it out and see what comes of it.

sometime in June, don't think they have an exact date yet.

So I'm thinking...that whole reading out loud to random strangers could be really amusingly creepy. Especially if reading from Kushiel's Avatar...heheheheheheee

she updates her site once a month, so i check, but it was a few months ago that she said the other book is coming out...it's called Santa Olivia...ok, actually she said early 2009 was a possibile date, and it will be under a pseudonym.

http://www.jacquelinecarey.com/archive07.html (it's under october, she also describes it a bit under august)

Yeah, I know where that book is. But in fulfillment of the oaths that we both took, I'm not sure that I should tell you where it is. Nyah, nyah. :-P

No, its harassment because I don't have it hidden. I'm kind of surprised you don't know where it is. Its in plain sight. :-P

I'm done with High King's Tomb if you want to borrow it :)

You're also welcome to borrow any of the other fiction books I've picked up. Shall I put a box together for you?

High King's Tomb, definitely. Please tell me it was better than First Rider????

Anything else, not at the moment, thank you though...I've still got a small but considerable stack of Heinlein, Kerouac and Marquez sitting in my room that I want to read.
