So customer writes in with an error in his security software.

We know about this error and there is a new version of the program to correct the issue. We advise him of this and provide the link to the download, instructing him to completely remove the offending version and then install the new version.

His response?

"But if I just uninstall the old one, won't I be unprotected from viruses?"

*sigh* Yes, you caught us. The new version doesn't include an antivirus. That's how we're fixing the error.

LOL Your stories of stupid users seriously amuse me. Sometimes when users are dumb, I want to just tell them to stick their fingers in an electrical socket until the lights come on again...and you deal w/ them more frequently than I do as a consultant on a project for a longer period of time at a shot.

One non-stupid interpretation...

Actually, I could easily see myself asking the exact same question — referring to the window of vulnerability between uninstallation and reinstallation. Somehow I get the idea that this isn't what he meant.

From you? Believe it in a second.

From anyone for whom I cannot at least hear a voice? Never believe it.

Especially considering that I had to "translate" the writing to understand it.
