Finally...

A picture of my cypress tree tattoo all colored in. It's only been what...since September? The image is kinda grainy, but otherwise not bad.

This tattoo starts just below the text across my shoulders and runs down my spine to about my waist, so it's like 14" high or something like that

What type of cypress is that? The only ones I've seen up here are depressing and droopy. The leaves hung so vertically that if the thing was any sadder they'd just fall to the ground.

I was originally going to get a grey scaled swan landing on water, with wings stretched across my shoulders and the hymn text lower on my back...but due to the placement of my first tattoo on my shoulder blade, I couldn't make the swan work in the way I wanted to, and I didn't want to get it done another way, so I went through the many things associated with Apollo and nothing seemed right. The cypress tree kinda clicked, though it's not like the myth of Kyparissos has any personal meaning to me or anything like that. Likely though, it explains why some of my more er, interesting dreams always seem to have me backed up to a cypress tree.

Nope. I am a devotee of Apollo, and the cypress is a tree associated with him.

I am, however partially of Sicilian descent, and cypress is found all over the Mediterranean.

...which now leads me to ponder....

Does the tree come up in dreams because I happen to have a cypress tree permanently at my back, so to speak? Or did it click for me because there would be reason for it to be there later? No clue, really. It's probably a sort of chicken/egg question.

And why cypress? Why not laurel?
