So I asked about a year and a half ago and no one could tell me then, ut listening to Keeping The Faith has reminded me that I still want to know...

What on earth are ditty-bop shades???

A hefty Google search returns only lyrics for the song and stuff on a group called the Ditty-bops.

Clearly, they are some sort of sunglasses, but please, someone put my curiousity to rest?

It's probably like that one word from either Hotel California or The Joker (I forget which and I suck at lyrics) where the mysterious word was just made up.

Think Tom Cruise in Risky Business. Billy Joel wore them a lot back then too. I think their real name is Wayfarer Sunglasses.

As mentioned below generally "diddy bop" shades refer to the Wayfarer sunglasses made by Ray-Ban. For example...

Almost before I clicked I had a recollection of the shades that were popular in the 80s. EEEE! I actually quite liked them. :) Not that they ever looked good on ME, mind you.
