I got a raise at work today. I didn't expect it to be great, but it was so laughable. And then I realized I was only one step short of the highest raise I could have gotten. Man, I need to get out of this. I had the worst call today. A total bitch that didn't like what I told her, demanded to speak to my supervisor and refused to wait on hold to be transferred. She wanted me to assist with removal and reinstallation of 3rd party software AND promise that all her problems would be cleared up because she didn't want to wait for the other company to pick up their phone. Sorry chicky. And she demanded for 15 minutes that I help her or put my supervisor immediately on the line. We went back and forth..I couldn't give her the assistance that she wanted with the software, but I could let her talk to a product specialist. She didn't say anythign that I could use to justify haning up on her. she wanted one thign or another and when I offered her her second demand, she refused. Then she started askign for my personal informationm, I told her that I was not required to give anything but my first name so she asked for an ID number....I don't have one of those either. She wanted somethign that she could use to identify me when she hung up and called back to complain (She said that flat out) At that point I just wanted to be rid of her, so I told her I'd be happy to create a case and give her the case number which would link right back to me when she called to complain...but I had to create the case to get a number out of the system, so I still had to put her on hold. Effectively, I filed a complaint against myself today. Then she decided after that that she wanted to hold anyway. By the time I got to the end of the call, I was so pissed off, I was shaking. and I could feel this pressure at the base of my throat, I just wanted to cry and leave. I contented myself with having a soda. (It's NEVER a good scene when I consume caffeine to calm myself down (Yes, calm myself down. In certain states of mind- none of them good ones at all- caffeine calms me down quite quickly.)

What is it about so many people that they think they have the right to demand EVERYTHING. (Hell, I just realized....I should have pulled the "I don't know how to do that with so and so's software. I've never even used it" routine. Might have saved a lot of headaches. I usually save that as a last resort, and the need to use it always comes from arrogant men who are pissed off to be talking to a woman in the first place...well, not QUITE always. The (MUCH) rarer case is the really nice, sweet, clueless customer with their first computer who's decided that they adore me and want me added to their family (I had a woman last week try to set me up with her son...upon asking wher I was, and me replyign "Maryland", she started gushing "Oh, you just HAVE to meet my son, he's 29 and six foot 3, blonde hair and blue eyes and he's working on his master's degree in Egyptian Archaeology, he plays the saxophone and speaks 3 languages...and he lives in Baltimore. Are you familiar with Mount Vernon?" Egyptian Archaeology? Saxophone? 3 Languages? Hmmmm...What was his name again?) Though, these type of customer it's usually a lot easier to explain to them that you're not trained in so-and-so's technology, but So-And-So company's tech support should be able to get you the right information on that.

What was my point again? Oh yeah...tech support entitlement. Computer entitlement in general. ("You mean to tell me that I just spent $2600 on a computer that can't take being left in a torrential downpour for 5 mintues? What kind of crap is that? Calling that a portable computer is false advertisement! I'm suing you and going back to Dell. At least with them no one made fun of me for buying a Mac!" or What do you mean I paid $350 for a 3-year contract that you would help me with stuff and you won't sit here and walk me through takingpictures, importing my movies making movies and dvd's and fixing my corrupted pictures? i want my money back!" or "Macs are supposed to be good with cameras. i bought this camera even though the manufacture told me it wouldn't work on the assumption that it would work anywayand it won't? i want you to give me my money back for the computer right now!" or "your operating system crashed and wiped out my 10 years of data! I don't care if it wasn't baced up. I've only had the computer for 4 years. Who backs up before a computer is 5 years old?"

In other news, Turkey Hill now makes Lime Tea. It's pretty good. A bit less strongly flavored than their Orange or Lemon tea.

I think i'm going to go to sleep. Or make some coffee. (No, I don't need to calm down, I'm fairly mellow right now, I just want to drink somethign cold that tastes good. I've drank most of the lime tea that I bought, I want to save soem for tomorrow.)

I leave you with a few lines of the song stuck in my head...

"...ashes to ashes,
funk to funky
we know that Major Tom's a junkie..."

ok... when did TfF do a remake of the Bowie's 'Ashes to Ashes'?? and I thought I had heard all of their stuff *sigh*

Don'cha just love providing tech support to morons that have no business having technology in the first place *hehe* tho, just realize that it's all part of the corporate marketing -- sell computers based upon their "ease of use" and "user-friendly"-ness, then hire inexpensive people to take the complaints aka "service calls." Those with revoked Gene Pool Passes should not only not procreate, but they should also be prevented from owning any electronic based technology.
