Ok...so I won an auction on Ebay. I paid for the item, recieved it over a week ago, and have been left positive feedback by the seller. Why am I getting a message that she never recieved payment?

And a question to other Ebay users...what do you think of people who give reciprocal feedback (positive for positive, negative for negative)? Is it really right? I mean, if both parties do what they're supposed to do, pay in a timely manner and ship the stuff out, there's no question that both should get positive. But here's an example of my own...and my only non-positive feedback. I won an auction sometime back and paid for the item right away- I'm talking about within an our of the auction closing. A week goes by and I don't recieve the item, but I get an email of apology from the seller...she's making a trip to the post office the next day. Okay, no big deal. A week and a half goes by, and I don't recieve the item...I email the seller, and no response..until about 4 days after sending the email, I recieve the package- postmarked for the day I sent the email. This kinda irked me, but it wasn't the end of the world. It efinitey didn't merit a positive feedback, but I didn't feel that I needed to leave negative anyway. So I left a neutral feedback...I forget what I said. A few days later, I find a new feedback on my record...also neutral...with a comment that I should check my spam folder for her email. (I did....no email. But lots of ads for porn.) The first one came through, why would the second one not? I emailed her politely stating that there was no email from her in my spam folder informing me of additional delay on the shipment, she had informed me of an initial eley and said that she was sending it the next day. Then I wait another week and a half before trying to contact her, and get no response, only to recieve the package postmarked for a week and a half after she said she was sending it. I'm not styling myself as the perfect Ebay user- I've had a few auctions where I was a bit slow in sending the payment due to lack of internet service, or unexpected bad timing of the auction winning with something else coming up...hey, but ya know what? Each time I contacted the seller and either apologized for being late if I hadn't made previous contact and sent it then and there, or explained the situation and asked for a few extra days...In the case of one auction which I bidded on before- but won in the midst of The Cold From Hell last winter, and was out of work for nearly 2 weeks...the seller was kind enough to give me a full month to pay for the item...and still left a positive feedback with comments like "Good buyer, prompt payment." I would have understood perfectly if negative feedback had been left. I sure as hell wouldn't have left negative feedback for them if they did.

What's my point? I dunno. I just have a problem with people leaving bad feedback to someone when they're the ones who screwed up. It's like bribery? Or a bit of a scare tactic? (Yeah, I know...a negative feedback on Ebay....wooooooo)

And yeah, I know that's life on the internet. So don't lecture me about that. It's my rant dammit :-P

It's pretty effective for a simple reputation system. My guess is it'll eventually catch up with her, and not with you because you're not delusional.

yeah, it works mostly. but like everything else it's impoerfect. not really a big deal, just a thought i had at the time. i was annoyed with the person at the time, but it's passed. just a rant about somethgin i'd been meaning to post for a while because i really was curious as to what people thought, and a firsthand example.

now what were we talking about again?
