From a minority perspective in Basra, Iraq...For Basra's Christians, Hussein era the good old days
Shiite-dominated city's minorities say repression on rise
Something I was unaware of...(Quoted from the article)
"Hussein murdered tens of thousands of Iraqis, most of them Kurds in the north and Shiites in the south. But he did not see other minorities as a threat because of their smaller numbers and because his regime was secular and not hostile to other religions or the rights of women, unlike some of Iraq's current officials."
I guess this indicates that sometimes I just don't read enough into things, but I did not realize that the killing was focused on only 2 specific groups. It doesn't make it any less of an atrocity, but I learned something new.
...and good news for the coffee-drinking population... Though who knows what studies will say next week?
