Ooooh Pretty...
Your Brain's Pattern

Your mind is a multi dimensional wonderland, with many layers.
You're the type that always has multiple streams of though going.
And you can keep these thoughts going at any time.
You're very likely to be engaged in deep thought - and deep conversation.

I'm looking for someone who can sew!

...specifically, I'm looking for someone to sew a hooded cloak for me.

This is what I have in mind:
A fairly warm garment for special occasion winter-wear though no rainy or snowy-weather wear needed, but I could be wearing it outside for up to 2 hours at a time over weather-apropriate clothing. I'd like a 3-ply construction with the outside being a satin brocade, the middle layer being of a fleece material, and the inner layer being a faux fur. No really fancy trim- the outer fabric that I want to use is ornamenal enough. Maybe some contrasting ribbon edging around the hem, and definitely a clasp-closure of some sort. I'm 5'10" and would want something about mid-calf length so it would be fairly long. I would like to have this done sometime in October or November.

I know nothing about sewing...if you could tell me...

1. Am I describing something that's extremely difficult to do or is it reasonably feasible?
2. How much would you charge to make such a garment- labor only. I would have the materials ahead of time.

In other news, the recently-sprained ankle hurts. The tendons are getting realy irritated when I move my foot. Might be because I waked about 4 miles today to various places?

I've been wanting one myself for several years. I went out and got a pattern about 5 years ago. Maybe if I get a sewing machine one day, I'll get some material and make an autumn & winter cloak :)

i have wanted to crochet one from recycled silk for a long time...buuuuut that's EXTREMELY unrealistic. So I decided I would get someone to sew one for me...the top layer of fabric I want to be this peachy-melon colored satin brocade with a chines/japanese cherry blossom/crane designa. The inside I want to be this really really really soft faux fur stuff that is cream-colored and feels just like bunny fur....but is totally synthetic.

I made a single layer robe with hood. It wouldn't be that hard to adjust the pattern into a cloak, but I am no where near talented enough to manage a triple layer...yikes.

Considering it took me 14-20 hours to sew a single layer robe, I'm assuming at triple layer cloak would take a while...getting the layers done right etc...

Just attempting to give you ideas.

hehe...well, i talked to my roommate. she wants me to get scrap pieces of all 3 layers and she'l determine if she can do it or not...her main concerin is if they'll all squeeze under the foot on her sewing machine

honestly, I'd recommend straight wool rather than going with a 3 layer deal. You can certainly decorate it with the satin, but what you are asking is rather complex -- almost like you're asking for a quilt with a hood...

I'll certainly do whatever I can to help. I just have to get Mom's 1948 Singer Featherlight in working order.

I'll let you know. I actually talked to steph about it last night, she wants to see scrap pieces of all the fabric to play with but she thinks she could do it as long as the pieces all fit under the foot of her sewing machine
