Sep. 7th, 2005 01:46 pmFrustrated: Fire crews to hand out fliers for FEMA
" Firefighters say they want to brave the heat, the debris-littered roads, the poisonous cottonmouth snakes and fire ants and travel into pockets of Louisiana where many people have yet to receive emergency aid.
But as specific orders began arriving to the firefighters in Atlanta, a team of 50 Monday morning quickly was ushered onto a flight headed for Louisiana. The crew's first assignment: to stand beside President Bush as he tours devastated areas."

I just don't have words to respond to this. People need help dammit.

Date: 2005-09-07 06:21 pm (UTC)And Goddess forbid if you need to provide immediate assistance to someone in need -- you are only safe if you don't see anything. If you try to help, but aren't "certified," then you become liable; if you see the problem, are "certified," but don't help, then you become liable. FEMA needs to be severely chastised for turning away perfectly good help... Can't wait for all the lawsuits *sigh*
Honestly... Baton Rouge is only 60 miles from New Orleans. Most of the "helpless" could have walked that in two days (or found other means) -- if only they had taken their lives into their own hands.
