My Thoughts on the Sport of God
Date: 2005-09-11 12:53 pm (UTC)What I'm most concerned about on a basic level, is the principle of "mob rule" that he's describing. I have little doubt that the thousands (millions?) who subscribe to these GOP-Christian talking heads and their agenda, actually have no idea what the end goals of this movement are- I certainly can't tell, but I do know that the old saying "power is an end unto itself" could certainly apply to what these "political Christian activists" are working toward.
Granted, I'm glad to have true Christians out there with me in numbers, but even if they were supporting the Libertarian side* I would still have accept/endure/what have you that other people have their own beliefs and opinions, and if they want to stick with those then they CAN as per the rights described in the Constitution. It's neither our business nor our right to go fussing around with others and their beliefs unless the threaten the rest of us (ie the case with the Jihadists- but on the other hand, this whole spin of "the Jihadists successfully hit us because God has 'left us'" is a bunch of hooey...by that logic you would say that the US was EVIL in 1941 because God "allowed" the Japs to bomb Pearl Harbor** =P).
"To God what is God's; to Caesar what is Caesar's." Gotta remember that.
*which in terms of the Ohio Restoration Project, is completely incompatable with the way they intend to do business once in significant power
**I have a completely different hypothesis as to why this happened, and it is based in matters of state, not matters of faith
