erf...so I wanted to retool my invocation to the shining ones from Winter Solstice for Summer Solstice (cause, damn, I like it.) and I know that it's on my LJ...but I can't find it anywhere in the month of December '06 (that's when I wrote and would have posted it)

Well, I have my little blue book-o-invocations here in my backpack...so I have it here. but so I don't have to hold the book open (cause it doesn't have one of those nice, convenient lay-flat bindings), I'm typing it up.

I will have to add it to LJ and tag appropriately.

So I'm working on my ritual parts for Saturday. Our prayer on Saturday is concerned with helping us to see- we've talked about different perspectives, looking beyond the surface, looking past the obvious and all that fun stuff in observing what goes on around us and the patterns that arise in our lives, and I think we're going to have a separate altar for the blessting of divination tools and stuff...

Anyway, I'm here having to refrain from adding "Sword of omens, give me sight beyond sight!" to an invocation.

I wrote this just before Winter Solstice. I wasn't actually writing somethign that could so easily be tweaked for other rituals, but it worked out that way I've used it at least one other time, but I just used it in the base form that time. (Oh, and yes...I know that the solstice is actually Thursday...but we're celebrating on Saturday.)

The original:

From the center of all worlds,
I call out
to the gods of all times,
to the gods of all places
to the names we know,
to the names that are lost to time immemorial
to the faces carved in stone
rendered in clay
shrouded in history
or hidden from sight
we remember the familiar
we honor the foreign, the unseen and the forsaken
To the thousand names remembered
and ten thousand names forgotten
we welcome you.

As used for Winter Solstice 2006:

From the center of all worlds,
I call out in the darkness
To the Vanir and the Aesir and
to the gods of all times,
to the gods of all places
to the names we know,
to the names that are lost to time immemorial
to the faces carved in stone
rendered in clay
shrouded in history
or hidden from sight
we remember the familiar
we honor the foreign, the unseen and the forsaken
Help us to find our worth through our faith.
To the thousand names remembered
and ten thousand names forgotten
we welcome you.

To be used for Summer Solstice 2007:

From the center of all worlds,
From this sanctuary where the light
still shines on the longest day
As the evening falls, I call out
to the gods of all times,
to the gods of all places
to the names we know,
to the names that are lost to time immemorial
to the faces carved in stone
rendered in clay
shrouded in history
or hidden from sight
we remember the familiar
we honor the foreign, the unseen and the forsaken
Help us to see with the subtle vision
that twilight brings
to the thousand names remembered
and ten thousand names forgotten
we welcome you.

Among the odder details of adjusting to a completely different schedule for half the week...

Having to get out of bed because it's too hot in the sun and I'm afraid of getting a sunburn.

Actually, today, I curled up on the other end of the bed, wanting to keep sleeping for a while....and then ended up laying horizontally across the very foot of the bed until the sun crept all the way to that end, but then it was about the time that I should wake up anyway.

I *could* always move my bed between the windows. Or put up curtains. But that would make sense. So that's right out :-P

I will not inject any Thundercats references into the Solstice ritual on Saturday.

Michael's Crafts has these wonderful little wooden boxes...they're meant to be painted or whatever. We used one as part of the outsiders thing for Thargelia, put it on the fire...I've got a smaller ne from there that I'm going to use as part of my offering for my dedicant's oath. I've put some dried bay laurel leaves into it, and plan to add a couple of sticks of incense (I'll have to cut them into pieces first), the original written copy of my Dedicant's Oath (I have an electronic copy and another written copy)

I keep thinking that I should be putting something else in there, that I'm missing something but for the life of me I can't think of what I could be missing.

I think also, that I'm going to take the remainder of the bottle of Chardonnay that I have in the fridge as my offering to the shining ones. It is good wine, but I just haven't been in the mood to drink any lately, except for a brief period the other day which eventually morphed into a wanting for coffee so I drank that instead. So, I will give my wine to the gods before it goes bad, I'm sure they will like it :-)

Smashing Pumpkins! My favorite band ever!

They've gotten back together! They're releasing a new album next month! They're touring! *dances*

They're coming to Baltimore in August!!!!!!!! To Virginfest. Gah...tickets are freakin' $98. But I think I don't care.

Here's a band you might like: http://www.thyrfing.com/

(Keeping in mind that I'm basing this on what I think I remember from listening to a few tracks several years ago...so if I'm way off and this isn't what I'm thinking I'm thinking of, I apologize.)
