"Boys and girls," Ham said. If a teacher so much as mentions evolution, or the Big Bang, or an era when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, "you put your hand up and you say, 'Excuse me, were you there?' Can you remember that?"

Ummmm.....

With pulpit-thumping passion, Ham insists the Bible be taken literally: God created the universe and all its creatures in six 24-hour days, roughly 6,000 years ago.

He shows his audiences a graphic that places the theory of evolution at the root of all social ills: abortion, divorce, racism, gay marriage, store clerks who say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas."

This is a little disturbing. I think there's a lot more at the "root of all social ills" than theory of evolution (I also differ in my list of social ills but that's not the point)

Excuse me, Mr. Ham... were you there? Can you remember that?

no, but he sure knows who was!

If this is to be taken so literally...and Adam and Eve WERE the first people and Cain and Able were their kids...who did Cain and Able marry?

"I wasn't at the Battle of Gettysburg either, so I guess that never happened then?"

he needs to read his source better

racism is in the bible, as is divorce.
i honestly think nonbelivers know the source material, better than
the "true belivers"

(who i feel shouldn't be allowed access to the medicine developed from the sciense they don't belive in..so not Zpacks, in case of infection)

Wow!

It's truly unbelievable the stuff that gets churned out based on such ignorance. I don't oppose religion, but I oppose those who wish to suppress science, reason, logic, and truth.

Maybe no one was there for the beginning, but no one we know was there for Jesus' life or the writing of the bible, so by the same logic, they're all fake as well.

As for the bible being taken literally...yeah, right! If we take the bible literally, then we are supporting a book that condones slavery, mysogeny, torture, human/animal sacrifice, adultery, murder, and other abominations. This from the same book as those commandments that denouce such behavior. Fundamentalists are quick to quote the bible when it comes to supporting their own arguments, but you'll rarely hear them acknowledge the parts that are 100% wrong by all human standards today. Has that guy ever worked on the sabbath? If so he should be put to death as per the bible. Does he eat the wrong foods or wear clothes of different fabric types? He might have to be put to death for that too. Wouldn't society be great if we followed that book literally?

And lastly...they denounce racism and divorce? At last check those were things invented by, and used by the church for their own means for a very long time.

*grumble* this is one of the few things today that really peeves me.

No kidding.

If you take the Genesis story literally, that can only mean that all people in the world now are the product of millions and millions of years of rampant incest. How this is a comforting belief to so many people I will never understand.

Though this may explain why humanity as a whole is so screwed up. :-)

I need to pick up a bible and look for this myself...but my roommate (Who's Mennonite) tells me that they don't come right out and say it in the bible, but Adam and Eve had at least a few other kids. She also tells me that at that time, Giants existed on earth and Angels came down from the heavens and reproduced with humans for a time til God said "ok, 'nuff of that now" supposeddly it's all in Genesis somewhere. I'll have to take a look-see.
