I Just Can't Believe This....
Oct. 5th, 2006 09:13 amI'm sure by now many of you have heard about the shooting of several girls in an Amish schoolhouse in Pennsylvania a few days ago...that happened in Lancaster County...just a few miles down the road from Lancaster city where I lived. In a teeny little village. Words just don't describe the atrocity, and I am not going to talk much about it right now because I'm at work and it's just to much of an emotional trigger.
Words can als not describe the horror that I felt hen I saw this on my friends list this morning:

(Basically, if you don't want to read it..and I don't blame you...Fred Phelps is planning to picket the funerals of these girls.)

now they're saying that the WBC has agreed not to go to the funerals because they've been offered an hourlong spot on a Foxnews station...I just can't believe some people. I'm sure many people are thankful to Mike Gallagher for offering the airtime to keep them away from the funerals...
"Shirley Phelps-Roper, the daughter of church's pastor, told FOXNews.com the group canceled the protests in exchange for an hour of radio time Thursday on syndicated talk-show host Mike Gallagher's radio program....
Gallagher said that church officials would have to sign a document making them liable for the airtime if they broke their promise not to demonstrate.
"It's awful for me to give up an hour of my radio show ... but I think it’s worth the sacrifice to keep them away," Gallagher said.
But she defended the church's initial decision to protest at the Amish girls' funerals.
"Those Amish people, everyone is sitting around talking about those poor little girls — blah, blah, blah — they brought the wrath upon themselves," Phelps-Roper said, adding that the Amish "don't serve God, they serve themselves."

Date: 2006-10-06 07:39 pm (UTC)I can't believe that. The Amish are wonderful people. Perhaps I put the plain folk up on a pedestal but to resist the world changing around them to live a life of simplicity is pretty amazing.
And to think they just wish to be left alone without intrusion upon their way of life. That man should rot in hell for his descration of a poor girl's funeral.
Yes, I am judgemental *God*dammit.

Date: 2006-10-06 08:30 pm (UTC)What really broke my heart about this whole thing was what I heard on the news this morning from the survivors - they said the older girls who died were offering themselves up in the place of the younger girls. My Gods, how does a teenager find the courage and faith to do that? It gives me chills.
I can only hope, that in similar circumstances, I could have the courage to do that to save someone I cared so much about. Gods hold them.
