Jan. 26th, 2007 01:14 pmMauve.
I loathe the color mauve.
So my sister calls me last Friday night while I was at Caryn and Will's and tells me that the dress I am expected to wear for her wedding isn't going to be peach. It's going to be mauve
WHAT?????????
I don't do mauve.
Yes, I know that this is her wedding, not mine. but she doesn't have to wear it. And dammit, if I were getting married and she were in the wedding I'd have the consideration to not make her wear mauve. Gawds, I'd rather do seafoam green.
So we go around in circles a bit and she tries to give me an idea of what it's like...so she uses the most ghastly example possible.. "You know what color the wall is behind the sink in my kitchen?"
Yes! I know precisely what color that is and I find it to be particularly objectionable.
Oh, a little while back, she'd told me she expects me to dye my hair a normal color. So that I don't embarass her in front of Dave's relatives. Great, now I'm embarassing. All because of my hair color. Like she didn't used to *go out of her way* to embarass me regularly.
so I tried to bargain with her and said I'd agree to the color if I could keep my pink hair. She insists no. Oh, and the material was bought and paid for. "Diana went along and she agrees to it so you should like it too."
But I != Diana. Hello?
Mom says it's "pale rose" which is a VERY far cry from their kitchen wall. And then asks if I would have preferred to wear orange because the store didn't have peach.
YES! I really WOULD prefer to wear orange. I would prefer orange over a great many colors...including especially mauve. i said this and mom's answer was "you know your sister hates orange."
Dammit, now I want to get married so I can have a wedding and ask Chelle to be a bridesmaid and dress her in orange.
Hey, if she makes me wear mauve, I am perfectly entitled to make her wear orange. I could make her dye her hair too. Orange. To match the dress. Orange orange orange.
Okay, anyone wanna marry me so I can make my sister parade around in an orange dress? (We can have it anulled later. I don't think I'd want to spend my entire life married to anyone on my friends list. Y'all are wonderful people but...ya know...well, there might be one or two exceptions. :-P )

Date: 2007-01-27 12:30 am (UTC)the wedding should be in October or November then, just to make sure that everybody resembles pumpkins :) It'll be a "harvest theme" wedding

Date: 2007-01-27 04:31 pm (UTC)I agree with what everyone here says about your hair, its yours, you have to live with what it looks like beyond the wedding day and she can't make you do anything with it. If you want to keep it pink, keep it pink. Your sister of course will attempt to verbally eviscerate you if you do so, but if you think its worth it to be embarrassing (and I would) then do so (and why would this embarrass the in laws, their son isn't marrying you, for the love of the gods).
I like the orange wedding. I'd like to be there to see it. From the sidelines of course, comfortably wrapped in my black cloud. :-)

Date: 2007-01-27 05:17 pm (UTC)My sister has it in her mind that if she has an opinion, and someone- anyone- else agrees, then somehow that must be more than enough to make me magically agree with...whatever. I can't tell you how many arguments have included her saying "Even *insert someone else we both know, usually irrelevant to argument* thinks so!"
