A general thought...

Why is it that if you make a post on an LJ community about something you're thinking about- and very clearly say you don't need suggestions as to what to do because you know what you WOULD do and are simply pondering reasons for a single aspect of the situation, people just jump right in and give advice as to what you should do anyway?

Another take: what's the point of talking about it if you don't want feedback? People give advice. It's what we do. :)

I thought it was pretty clear that if anyhtign, I was looking for feedback on one thing as opposed to another. I nmean, I only stated it three times, including editing the post twice to add such statements. I clearly stated "I'm feeling kinda X about situation Y. I know what I will do about it once I make up my mind to do it, but there's no reason that I should feel X about Y, and have been mulling it over. Anyone here ever felt that way?"

It's a trivial issue really...just that I've been reluctant to get rid of some books that I've no use for and no particular reason to hang onto them. I feel a little silly about it too. but once I actually get the books together and do it, I'm going to donate them somewhere. The what to do part is answered. The why I am reluctant is open for speculation and comment.

I've found that LJ isn't the best place to turn to for specific advice. People read what they want, see what they want, and always gotta put their two cents in.

yeah.

I wouldn't go to LJ if i was looking for real, serious advice...well, i might go to my friends list...but that's my friends.

because no one wants to take the time to actually read the post. I find this happens way too often

Because silly, you forgot to turn off the comment ability...;O} But seriously, people feel the need to give out their wisdom even when uninvited. That's why talk shows on tv and radio are so popular. Everyone wants to think they know something more than you and want to share it. At least be comforted by the fact that they wanted to help you.

BECAUSE a community is not your journal. What you would do with something really leaves no room for discussion. By posting it to a community, people assume that you want to hear suggustions (ie the basis behind a lot of communities). Personally I saw no reason for your post, and wondered why it was approved if you didn't want suggustions.

People like to give advice, wanted or not.
