I was talking to some assorted people last night, when I dropped and IM to
saratoga80, said he wasn't doing very well. Asked if I had been reading the LJ's of brothers in the northeast at all. I had..but hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary. I went back and glanced over my friends list...at the time, there was still nothing that I saw.
Rich sent me a link to a new story on the web. I scanned it, realized it was an incident at RPI. Saw a name...Anson Tripp. The last name wasn't ringing a bell, but I definitely knew of an Anson at RPI. (For anyone not familiar, it's a very common thing in APO to only know people by their first name, or a nickname. It's not at all unheard of to be good friends with someone and have no clue what their name is.) Asked Rich if it was the same...it was.
I was aquiainted with Anson. Knew him mostly through the old #aposoc irc channel, and had met a number of times from going to sectional conferences. He seemed like one of those people that I would be good friends with if I lived in closer proximity. Somewhere in my collection of photos, I have a picture of him standing on a desk during an EZ brotherhood meeting.
Being out of the APO loop for 4 or 5 years now, I hadn't seen or talked to him in at least that long, probably longer. I am so sorry to have heard last night of his passing.
My thoughts and prayers with Anson, his family and friends.
