I'd put in a request to have the evening of Thanksgiving off (therefore only working til 8am, and not working from 4-11pm) It was denied, saying that someone else was given the week off, and that I would be the only one in the office on Thursday night.
Oh really? That's fascinating. So um, if I'm the only one here, what are we going to do for coverage after I leave at 11pm? Cause I'll be damned if I'm working til 8am, dealing with public transportation on a holiday schedule- which means I'll be lucky to sleep three hours, and then turning around and coming back in to work from 4pm til 8am Friday morning. Unless you're giving me both overtime AND holiday pay (and I kinda doubt that'll happen)
Not only that...but the light rail stops running well before 11 on a holiday. And the last number 9 bus is at 1130 PM so don't get any briliant ideas.
However, if I will be working both of my Thursday shifts on Thanksgiving day...fifteen hours of double time will be nice.
On the other hand...I will have six days off for Christmas this year.
