Ok, strictly bitchy post, but I can't wait til the trend dies. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. DIE!

But people saying that something is "made of win" or "made of fail".

Just quit it already, for serious.

/soapbox

On a much happier note, the book I'm reading on Delphi continues to be just as fascinating as it was when I started it yesterday. I will likely finish it tonight sometime.

And in yet other news, I am now compulsively checking the email that I use for ADF stuff like, every twenty minutes in hopes that I'll be hearing back from Raven...not that I expect a response within 24 hours, but can you blame a girl for being really hopeful/impatient?

[livejournal.com profile] acousticdryad, I'm so not practicing moderation in this :-P

I don't know people who use the whole phrase anymore. It has already evolved. It probably won't ever go away, just become less prominent.

It comes from the acronym FTW (for the win).

I was seeing "FTW" for monthss before I ever saw/heard "made of win"...now I'm seeing/hearing it constantly.

have you recieved notice that your work was accepted at least?

Well, like I said FTW is where talking about "win" and "fail" comes from.

I usually just say that such and such *is* win or fail. The made of part was dropped several months ago.

oh, yeah. I know that's where it comes from. "ftw" doesn't bother me except when used excessively.

I'm with you on the win/fail thing, mainly because fail is not the opposite of win. Now, if it were win/lose or pass/fail, I'd find it less grating.

Urk, I hear ya on the ADF email. Waiting to hear back on something big like that stinks. (And remember, moderation in all things - including moderation!!)

I'm trying to finish things/tidy things up and get everything in ASAP, so i guess I'll be the next Grovie after acousticdryad to be chewing nails. I'll be doing the Dedicant Oath this weekend . . .

Good luck and I hope they get back to you soon!

It's a gaming-derived term, so win/fail is intrinsic to the playing of a competitive game. You either win over the other player or the endboss, or you fail to beat him/her/it. It's not even a strictly win/lose dualism, but a spectrum. You can lose and not *fail*, and you can win and still be "full of fail" (for instance, running an "instance" (a dungeon) where you're seriously overgeared or overleveled-- you win by default, but it's "full of fail" because you're not taking on something that's challenging). The internet loves to grab onto gaming slang, but I'm not so sure that gaming slang ports all that well into a general environment.

(I still use it, though, because I'm actually a gamer.)

The extent of my gaming experience is limited to Nintendo Duck Hunt, some MUSH/MUD action in the 90's, and a current mild obsession with Scrabulous and the like. I'm not exactly the most hip when it comes to slang, as you might imagine. :)

I often say that something is made of awesome. If I really like it, it's made of awesome from the mines of Mount Cool. Does this meet with your approval?

Not really, it's the "made of" part that bugs me mostly.

HOWEVER.

it's made of awesome from the mines of Mount Cool

Is randomly amusing for some reason.
