I started reading Thoreau's Walden tonight on the way to work. Yarg, I read over several paragraphs multiple times and got absolutely nothing from it, I might as well have been reading a blank page.

Here's hoping it gets more interesting.

I like some of Poe's stuff but I'm not a die-hard fan. The only Hawthorne I've read is Rappaccini's Daughter, which was a rather messed up little pamphlet of a book. And a serious bitch on which to write a term paper...lol

I vaguely remember glossing over the movements in American lit in high school. I'm reading Walden right now because it's one of the books on ADF's clergy training list.

I suppose you have to be 14 or so for him to make a dent on your brain. Walden was key in whatever "nuffism" spirit I have.

I actually wrote a paper on Rappaccini's Daughter and got an 'A' on it.

Skip the first chapter--it's basically just a listing of everything he needed to start his experiment. No teacher ever made me actually read that chapter because it's essentially useless.
