She's driving me nuts.

If anyone knows of a reason for this, or of a good deterrent, PLEASE do tell.

Every time Ferarri uses the litterbox, she then proceeds to scratch all round- in the box, on the box, the walls and floor around the box. She does this and just doesn't stop until I literally go over there and chase her away- I've watched her do this for ten minutes or more before, figuring she'd get tired of it, but no! and sometimes after being chased away, she'll wait a minute or so and go back to continue scratching.

She'll even get up and balance on the sides of the box to scratch in different places, one after the other, in the litter, on the side of the box, on the floor, on the wall, on the other wall, back to the floor, back to the litter.

Oh my god, I can't take it.

She's done this with a couple of different litter boxes- low sides, high sides, with different types of litter, it doesn't matter if the box has been scrubbed and has brand new litter, or if it hasn't been scooped in a day. I've seen her go to the box just to scratch around the area without actually using it.

There's not problem with her actually *using* the box. She doesn't have any health problems. She just scratches incessantly.

Forgot about this in all the, er, excitement.

Do y'all know what my damned cat did to me today?

Of course you don't.

Around 3 this afternoon, I woke up. Left my room to use the bathroom and when I came back out, Ferarri was sitting in front of my door just waiting to rush in. I let her in, she hasn't slept in my room lately.

So often, if I'm laying on my side, she'll hop up and lay down on my hip. did that today. After a while, I couldn't fall back to sleep in that position, so I rolled over on my stomach- I've developed the skill of doing so in a way that the cat doesn't fall off of me, and she usually just lays on the small of my back then.

She did that for a couple of minutes today. Then she got up and pranced around a bit, licked my face and arm, poked at me with her face, then jumped on the back of my neck, and sorta flopped so that all her weight landed on the base of my skull- she would have laid there, but I wasn't going to let her. She repeatedly tried to suffocate me by laying against my face in ways that rendered me unable to breathe anything but cat fur- much as I'm sure she'd love it, I still can't breathe cat fur, I still require air.

Finally, she got up, poked her nose in my face one more time, then started sniffing at my eye. Next thing you know, there are teeth on my eyelid, and teeth about to find themselves under my eyelid on my eyeball.

My cat bit me in the eye. She almost got my eyeball. I keep forgetting why I never let her sleep with me during the day (She never does any of this at night, usually just finds a spot down by my feet and stays there til I get up in the morning- that is, after sitting on the window sill for a while waiting for the perfect opportunity to jump down on me, landing square on my sternum.

SO...I screamed. She just looked at me and meowed in a sort of questioning way- because it's a sign of love when a cat's fangs puncture your cornea, right? And picked her up and deposited her outside my door.

That just wasn't cool.

And I never got back to sleep.

A Riddle.

Q: What goes sniff-sniff-headbutt-rub-rub-lick-lick-lick-*chomp*?

A: Ferarri. To my hands, my arms, ankles, my ear, finger, shoulder, foot....

I love my cat, really I do. And no doubt, she loves me. Or at least pretends to so I'll feed and pet her and stuff. Either way.

But why can't she just be a nice normal lap cat? I could sit here at the computer, she could sit in my lap, I can continue to type and work.

No, no. That's just not good enough for Ferarri. Ferarri is a boob cat. A rather insistent one at that. I put her down, she crawls back up. I put her down, she crawls back up. I put her down...you get the idea. It's rather difficult to type with a cat sprawled out across your chest. Thank goodness none of the other cats ever try to do this.

In other news, I don't believe I've mentioned lately how much I loathe the rental company. So I discovered yesterday when I was getting ready to cook dinner that the pilot light on one side of the stove went out. I didn't know how to relight it (This only happened once at the old house when we were completely without gas and electric when someone cut lines in our neighborhood last year...Cullen sent Billy over to take care of it, and on that stove, if I remember correctly, it wasn't particularly easy to get to and took some maneuvering.) So in the process of trying to figure it out, the pilot on the other side went out. I called up the property manager and he spent about twice as long as it would take to tell me what to do to relight it telling me that he doesn't take calls on weekends and I would have to call back and leave a message and he would have never answered the phone if he knew it was me calling. *sigh*

I didn't know if it would be of any help, but I called up Grandma Jane and she told me how it worked on her stove...luckily it was the same as on our stove here and I got the pilot light relit, though attempting to do it while talking on the phone resulted in a lot of banging and clanking and I ended up having to hang up to do it, but I got it done. *Sigh* So I get the whole "weekend" thing, but how difficult is it to say "push back on the top ledge of the stove, then lift the range surface from the front, there's a rod inside to prop it on, turn the gas on one of the burners and bring a lit match to the point where the two tubes between the burners meet."

Conversely "You know, I really don't know. If you can't figure it out, call back tomorrow and I'll send someone to take care of it." would have worked.

Instead, he hung up on me.

However...I got the burners lit successfully and dinner cooked.

We are so outta here when this lease is up.

I dunno what's up with Juno (one of Dominic's cats), she seems to have it in for Ferarri for some reason. Dominic actually put his cats in the bathroom yesterday when he went to work.(Big, third-floor bathroom where they stayed for a while when he first moved in because he thought that his aunt was going to take them after a day or two)

This was prompted the night before when Ferarri decided to sleep with him, and Juno attacked her. Up til then he'd heard us talking about it but never believed it entirely because he'd never seen her do such a thing.

Last night, I retrieved Ferarri from under the kitchen table to bring her upstairs with me. Juno was nearby and as soon as I started up the stairs, she followed me, then followed me into [livejournal.com profile] chironcentaur's room, and then followed me u the stairs (I was holding Ferarri the whole time.) When I put Ferarri in my room and closed to door to go and brush my teeth, Juno laid down just outside my door. When I yelled at her and tried to shoo her out of the way with my toe, she yowled at me. When I came back from brushing my teeth, she was sniffing under my door. She turned around, looked at me, dropped her head and tail for a second, and then looked back up at me and growled.

And I just realized that I might have left Ferarri in my room with the door shut. Oops. She'll just sleep til I get home though.

A couple of days ago I came home and it wasn't til I was ready to go to bed that I went up to my room and found her there. The part that I don't get- I remember very clearly taking her out of the room when I left that morning and her walking down the stairs. Since she'd been there all day, I removed her from the room to go eat, get water, use the litterbox. I closed the door, and felt something furry against my ankle. it was Ferarri. For the life of me I can't figure out how she managed to get back in. I swear on a stack of holy books of your choice that I saw her sitting outside my door as I closed it, and when I turned to check the knob, it was tightly closed.

Up til recently, my cat ran all over the house. She responded when I called her. She talked to me when I meowed at her. Whined too. She wanted attention constantly. She wasn't afraid of anyone or anything.

Now, she's terrified of everyone. Hides all the time. I can never find her. She won't follow me upstairs. I have to pick her up and take her and she digs her claws into me. If I put her down on the stairs, she turns and runs back down to the first floor. She's scared of everything. If she goes into my room, she finds the one or two places where I have a hard time getting to her and holes up there. If she's in the room when I'm in bed, she stays away from me until I turn off the lights to go to sleep. I don't know what the hell to do. In the last week or two she barely even sits up on top of the computer. This in maybe a month's time. Because every other cat in the house goes after her. I feel like I'm abusing my cat because I won't let her live in my room, the only room in the house that none of the other cats go because my door is always shut.

What the hell am I supposed to do?

Oh, and my neighbors are cranking their stereo. Great.

edit: I might be wrong. I'm starting to think that it's actually just one of Dominic's cats' At least that's the case this morning. Juno won't leave her alone. She's very actively going after Ferarri, looking for her on the third floor a little while ago, now in the second floor bathroom where Ferarri is currently hiding- and Juno just gave Ferarri a cut on the nose a little while ago. It's pretty minor, but it was bleeding. *sigh*
