There is something downright creepy about food whose name contains the word "delight".

How so? Triple Delight is one of my usual Chinese restaurant orders, so what am I missing?

Usually shrimp, chicken and beef in brown sauce with veggies, probably including but not limited to broccoli, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, water chestnuts, mini-corn and snow peas.

My all means. I'm flattered that my tastes in Chinese food render me interest-worthy, and I shall try to be at least mildly entertaining.

I hope you forgive me for not reciprocating in kind; I read more people than I can keep up with as it is, and therefore try to limit it to people I in some manner know. In any case, it's lovely to meet you.

I'm sure it's as good as anything else on the menu, but for some inexplicable reason, I find the word "delight" to be creepy when it's part of the name of a food. *shrug*

Do you feel the same way about Turkish delight?

Yes, although I've never had the opportunity to try Turkish Delight, if I recall what you told me, it's much the same thing as Greek Delight, which I have willingly tried.

Which also brings me to point out the obvious there that finding the word "delight" in a food name does not keep me from trying it.

Triple Delight is not something that I've ever ordered for one of two reasons- 1. I don't like the selection of vegetables- bamboo, snow peas, water chestnuts and mini corn are not vegetables that I like. 2. A less common reason is that in some places, the vegetables are just broccoli and soemtimes a few sliced carrots, in which case it's usually just another iteration of some other dish on the menu.

In either case, the fact that I find the word "delight" creepy is just a bonus. I think I've joked about refusing to eat anything with "delight" in the name, but it's not actually the case.

"Surprise" on the other hand...

If you don't like it, that's certainly a fine reason to stay away from it.

I, on the other hand, really insist on my food being surprise-free. I'll try just about anything that I haven't before if I have a very clear idea what it is, but I really dislike sampling "surprises".

yeah...I'm not a big fan of mystery dishes. I like to be able to look at what I'm eating and at least identify the major ingredients...

And definitely can't take mystery or surprise in alcoholic beverages- if someone can't or won't tell me what's in it, I won't go near it. (Coconut rum makes me ill, and even a small sip of any sort of malt beverage is enough to make me so dizzy I can't stand up.)

though, of course, it's always a good idea to know what's in your drink

I'm actually a bit more amenable to surprises in alcoholic beverages, if only because in those I can generally predict the _kind_ of thing that it is. But I don't get any unusual reactions from any of it, so I need not worry about safety. Of course a detailed breakdown is useful after I sample, so I know what to replicate or stay away from in the future.

With food, I have enough quirks and allergies and incompatibilities and dietary restrictions that major ingredients are generally insufficient.
