Well I was having a decent day.

Perhaps I was wrong to allow a thread to continue as it did.

Perhaps I should have gone back and friend-locked it which would have allowed the parties involved to continue as they wished.

I know that my journal is largely public and therefore, information can be taken anywhere by anyone, link anywhere by anyone.

But when it's reposted somewhere by someone who can easily ask my permission, someone that I've talked to quite a bit over the last year and a half on various forums, someone who wasn't involved in the discussion, in my eyes a line was crossed. Even more so since the permission of another involved party was asked.

I don't want to be one of these people who needs to lock down their journal.

...lost. what entry or thread was reposted elsewhere, and who felt the need to be so lame?

it was a, er, debate on what is and is not Hellenic polytheism that devolved into somethign of a fight between a couple of the participants. I decided to walk away from the post while allowing them to continue to duke it out, not really considering the possibility that the uninvolved party might come along and post it elsewhere. The person who reposted was not someone who was involved in the discussion.

If this is the conversation I was a part of, I'd sure like to know where it was cross-posted, and by whom. That is extremely bad etiquette, to say the least.

While I had nothing to do with it, presumably you wouldn't object to someone posting a URL elsewhere, linking to the discussion? I generally figure that if things are posted in a public place (open LJ entries count) that suitable license is given for certain liminted forms of reproduction, including pointing other people at it.

The courts have so far agreed with my intuition. Oh, gods, does that mean I think like a lawyer???

Which entry is this. I looked for one with alot of comments but couldn't find it. Now I'm curious. And I do think that's rude to not ask to post your work. I always before reposting anything (except memes) from friends.

That whole thing was indeed very unfortunate and I'm sorry it took place in your journal. I made a wild guess as to which forum you referenced and went to the usual suspect for this kind of stuff. The thread over there was massively inappropriate and I'm sorry you were called into question for something that had nothing to do with you. I think you conducted yourself quite respectably in all this.

Our faith communities are so small and small kingdoms can be the most petty. I'm a fairly hard recon, but to focus so much energy on the method rather than on those which that method is supposed to put us in contact seems a fruitless pursuit.

I hope your weekend goes better.
