That's really going to mess you up when you try to spell "weird."

The "i before e" rule really doesn't always apply.

I know! but "receive" seems to be the only word with which I have that problem...so in this case, it works.

It's cool. :) I just remember I argued about that rule with my bf for a long time when we first met. He was adamant that rule always worked and that "weird" was probably the only exception.

Then what comes on TV but an ad by Toyota where a couple are talking about the i before e rule and they spend the rest of the commercial saying words which don't fit. :) He stopped arguing about it after that.

It might help more to write the word "receive" that many times instead of the rule. It might get into body memory and visual memory. (I always get it backwards at first, myself, but then it looks wrong and I know to fix it.)

I think it's a muscle memory thing, but actually, it's a word that I type many times in any given work night, so I really should be able to type it. I don't have a problem writing it by hand.

FYI...just because it's April 1st:

I before E except after C or when sounding like A in neighbor and weigh...at least all those years in Catholic School counted for something...weeeeeee I can memorize...yeah :)
