So...nothing is carved in stone, but it looks like I'm very possibly going to be sent for my CVE certification training towards the end of October. Ahmed asked me tonight if I wanted to go to California. I said I'd never been to California. He thinks that's where the October training class is held.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think it happens in Milpitas- I'm about 99% sure it's somewhere around the San Jose area. And he said he thought it's the week of October 22nd.

Any of you wacky Califonians on my friends list in that area? If it's the case and I go to California in October, I'll be there from Sunday through Friday. I'll be in classes until 4 or 5pm every day, evenings are for studying...but I'll need to get dinner sometime, so if anyone is interested in keeping that possibility in mind....

More details when I have them.

My first ever business trip. Woohoo :-P

San Jose is about a 6-8 hour drive from me. (I'm about 90 min-2 hrs from Mexico, to put the sheer bigness of California in perspective. Coming from the 2nd smallest state in the union, it still freaks me out that you can drive an hour north and still be in the same state. And not have to pay tolls.)

But, absolutely good luck with that. Woohoo!

Oh, I understand the hugeness...I lived in Texas for two years..you can drive forever and never leave the state.

Hell, you can drive forever and never leave the DFW metroplex.

My brain has yet to grok this, though.

We go to LA and San Diego periodically, both of which are about an hour and change away in opposite directions. The trip to Solvang was 3 1/2 hours and that still is not even really considered central CA.

Texas is pretty huge. I think my brain can only handle so much bigness.

That being said, we may probably take a Bay Area trip later this year (first priority is New England trip in 9 days), but I can't say with any sureness when. October might be it, or November.

Yeah, it is a huge difference from being able to drive an hour or so in any direction and land in one of four or five other states, or take a train for six or seven hours and pass through four or five states in that time.

Weird coincidence -- my first-ever business trip is also that week in October, in Monterey, and I am flying into San Jose. Maybe we'll be on the same flight out of BWI.

Awesome. I've since found out that there's a training class in Colorado in November- I want to try and see if I can convince my boss to let me go to that one instead of October (which actually looks like it's in Massachusetts when I look at the schedule and not CA, seems my boss's memory isn't quite firing all the pistons.) because Colorado is where the people that I harass on a nightly basis are.
