Wish there was something I could do about this, but seeing as I have no control over the media, I don't think I can.

I am so fucking sick and tired of seeing and hearing of High School Musical and all of its iterations. Unfortunately, I saw the first one, when Samantha came to visit me two summers ago, Chelle sent along the video and Samantha really wanted to watch it. I had to exercise monumental amounts of self control to keep myself from hurling.

But it's everywhere. It's all over the place, on tshirts and backpacks and in advertisements for bread on TV. I want it to go away, I want it to be gone, I don't ever want to hear anything about it again. It's so freakin' stupid and annoying, and way up on top of the list of things that I positively loathe right now.

I share your ire, and it takes a lot of the breathing techniques I've picked up over the years in order to let that unhealthy attachment go for a while (until the next unnecessarily brain-numbing commercial comes on).

You should read this article:

That post was written within about thirty seconds of having seen one of said commercials. I don't actually dwell on this when it's not in my immediate attention :-)

Same here. The article I linked you to is actually one of the best critiques I've read of the public school system. Definitely worth a read.

Decent portrait of what my time in school was like (as one of those kids in a very conformity driven town that wouldn't play by the rules - I don't know how true some of those conclusions are, but I didn't turn out to be a mindless consumer that lets others do my thinking for me).

I'm not exactly irritated with the actual movies, but the merchandising for it makes me sick.

I'm usually in the thick of fannish trends (at least being aware of them), but I haven't seen any advertising or merchandising or anything else for this fandom, and barely even know what it is. Guess I'm lucky?

The one I want to die is Twilight. I don't get why on earth something that utterly dreadful is so popular.
