From what i understand-LJ layed off 20 of the 28 pple staff- I could be wrong but that is what I'm hearing-

Of course it would come after I posted to ask...but I did just find an article saying that they confirmed 12 layoffs. It also said that that was about 1/5 of the staff...12 is well over 1/5 of 28. I dunno.

There was a rumor going around that most of the US staff was let go but I've found articles from sources that have proved reliable in the past (CNET for example) that say only 12 folks were released and LJ still intended to keep their servers and server support here. All development is moving to Russia.

People have gone into an "OMG LJ is going to disappear" panic every time a major change has occurred. Each time the drama proved unfounded.

Companies are cutting staff because of the economy; it's really that simple.

Short version? They're bullshit, go about your life.

A rumor mill site called Gawker got a hold of someone who got downsized from LiveJournal, Inc., who decided to blow it all out of proportion and tell them that "almost everyone" got the axe. Gawker decided to pull numbers out of their asses and post it on the Tubes, where of course everyone read it and believed it. Drama ensued.

LJ is not going under.

They laid off some employees as most companies have had to do during the recession.

Thing is, it doesn't take a whole fuckload of people to run LJ. Wikipedia has 20 paid staff max.
