A statue of Apollo I've never seen before!
Is it sad that I kinda envy his sandals?

Only $12,000
Why on earth does no one make smaller replicas out of something other than marble or concrete of the statues that I want? A nice shrine-sized cast-resin version would be wonderful. Seriously. I don't need something that is literally the same height as me. Apollo himself is tall enough.

I suppose these giant replicas are for the upper classes to put in their gardens. I used to get a train by one such place in outer London years ago and there was a beautiful life-sized Artemis.

Date: 2009-04-14 09:11 am (UTC)Same here. I know that I read once that there was an actual meaning behind it, but several of the classical statues of him have what looks like a huge, floppy bow on his head...and that just kills several of them for me. I do like the one that I have though. But this one...and one other that I've only ever seen in garden concrete "life size" are ones that I'd *really* love to have. Other than that....uhg. Geez, I couldn't even tell you what the statue would look like if I could commission the perfect Apollo statue- I think it would have to be constantly morphing in appearance including wings sometimes, Scary Apollo and wolf forms- that's just how he appears to me.
Gavin mentioned you having a statue of St Michael for Apollo not too long ago. We were in a store that was mostly a painting gallery, but also had random statuary- mostly Greek gods- sitting around in little corners and shelves and stuff, and I looked up at one point, and there was...winged Apollo with a sword. (I know we've discussed the idea of winged Apollo before) The tag said St Michael, but nah, reasonably well convinced it was actually Apollo :-) (I also had the idea a while back that Apollo with a sword makes perfect sense- hey, sometimes the bow and arrow just isn't exactly what's needed, ya know? lol...)
Gotta say, the side view especially makes Him look pretty damn sexy. Not a bad thing. :)
Oh yes, I definitely agree. :-)
Why can't they make a smaller, affordable version?
Very sad. *laments the lack of affordable version of the statue*

It's very fierce, which is why I like it. :)
