I'm REALLY Sick Of This

Okay....so yeah, I have purple hair (Formerly pink, fuschia, magenta, pink and orange, and for about a minute last week, royal blue). People are going to ask questions and look at me funny and stuff. That's fine.. If i'm going to dye my hair crazy colors, I have to accept that. I can do that.

What I CANNOT accept is people just coming up to me on the street and touching my hair whilst making said comments. What gives people the nerve to think that this is okay? Once, last...um..Sunday I think it was? Whatever, the day doesn't matter, 3 eople walked past me on the street. On the way past, one guy reaches out and touches my hair, kinda runs his fingrs through a smalll section of it. By the time I realized this and kinda recovered from the shock, (No one's ever done that before, it's usually women coming up to me nd asking about hair dye and whatnot) they were gone and I couldn't really say anyhitng then.

I'm a pretty touchy-feely person, but this is just not cool. In some environments, this is okay...but "some environments" is not walking down the streets of Baltimore. (Or wherever)

Often, it's someone coming up from behind me, which really adds to the creepiness factor, and I can't duck out of the way, and when I say something objecting, I sometimes get an apology, but more often I get a "Lighten up, I just wanted to see what your hair feels like" response...which is horrible. It would be completely differnt if they were to ask, but not asking...it's almost like an assault of sorts.


Anyone have any insight into why people would just do this?

no idea why... maybe you need to punch them in the face and give the explanation you thought it was ok to do without asking.

Though I can't vouch for Baltimore, I know Mexicans like to do stuff like that a lot- they behave like that in AZ/CA and I've heard a girl from Texas talk about such an encounter. My mom had a lot of them as employees at Burger King, and they touched the female employees at any opportunity.

Anyway I'm rambling- I just will guess that in your case people are surprised at your "exotic" appearance and do the oooh, shiny! thing; either that or they're just terribly rude. I agree with the "punch in the face" response, though. =)

yeah,, i don't thinik this is a "touch the chick" thing as much as it's a "touch the hair" thing but yeah, maybe i SHOULD get violent...lol

Well, I'm sure you remember my really damn long hair. People seemed to think that my damn long hair was an invitation to put their grimy, filthy, sweaty hands in my hair. Yeeeeeeeck. I personally don't care if they are even a close friend. You do not touch my hairs. Ever.

Needless to say, this is one of the factors in me not missing my really damn long hair.

Solution? Be scarier. Apparently, I got so good at being scary that people are still wary of me.

i have no problems with friends touching my hair...and in places like PDF i don't mind strangers. it's just...arg...people suck ya know? some random guy comes up to you an the street and...well it's creepy. and it's one thing when they're coming from in front of you and you can duck and bitch and smack them or whatever, but it's worse when someone comes up from behind like i mentioned because even if you turn around and smack 'em...well, it's already done.

yeah...people suck. and yeah i rmember your long hair. i was jealous.
