Oh For Crying Out Loud...
Jul. 20th, 2005 01:17 pmFlip Flops in the white house spark controversy
Okay, so maybe I'm a bad person, or maybe I'm terribly horribly disrespectful, or maybe I'm just plain clueless, but Um...OH NO WE JUST CAN'T WEAR FLIP FLOPS IN FRONT OF THE PRESIDENT! Whatever will the neighbors think?
*Sigh* I dunno, I just *Don't* get what is so horrible about this. Can anyone explain to me why wearing sandals to the white house would be "disrespectful"??? All issues with Shrub aside, do you honestly think he was all that concerned with their footwear? This is one instance in which I would actually like to hear what he had to say about the matter...if nothing else, out of sheer curiousity.
I dunno, I've just always been confused by what is considered "ettiquette" or whatever. I'm not getting started on that rant.

Date: 2005-07-20 06:31 pm (UTC)There is no dress code for a reason... it leaves it to the freedom afforded the individual how they will convey themselves. And if the office-holder is arrogant enough to think they deserve better, they might want to get a reality check. After all, the Office of the President is not a royal office, and the individual is addressed as Mr. President (until such time as a woman is elected). You dress in your finest to meet the Queen of England; not King George II of America.
