This might suggest to some, however, that American freedoms are worth dying for but not exercising.

You know, that just sums up everything I could ever say about peoople who are so against speaking out against military action.

Now Robertson apologizes after denying what he said. Hmm.

No registration on either of these websites.

I have mosquito bites. They're driving me bats.

That is all.

Have met cute boy at work. Spoken to him exactly once. No idea what his name is. Amazing smile.

Just a general statement...Celebrities using their famousness (yeah I know...) to preach to people about their cause of choice drives me berserk. Yeah, they have the same right to speech as the rest of us, and in being famous, they're going to get heard...but all the attention that they may get for it, you'd think they were experts on a subject when they're not (I haven't really looked into all the details, and I'm sure that there are some out there who are knowledgable about their subject of choice...but others are no more so than the rest of us.)

Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] burny_md for pointing out to me that what I wrote sounds hypocritical and not reay something that I should bitch about. In that post, I basicly did the same thing as my stepfather did a few years back when he was going on and on about celebrities trying to save the environment and work for various other "evil, liberal" causes...which at the time really annoyed me.

That said, I'd like to clarify..as anyone who's read my journal or known me for more than a few minutes has probably found out, I'm really good at getting irritated and expressing my thoughts as they come to me without clearly explaining.

That said, be it a cause that I agree with or not, when people resort to lowly tactics like name-calling and generalizations to influence people on their respective cause, and not speaking inteligently about it...that I have a problem with (Celebrity or not, but especially when you're famous, if you realy want to use your influence, don't you think it's more effective to speak intelligently about the subject? Then again, maybe not...so many people will rally around when you sling mud and insults instead of speaking constructively.

The particular case in question happenes to be something that I don't agree with...here is a quote from Pat Boone speaking against people protesting the war or military conflict...whatever it is in Iraq right now (Really, what is it officially? Are we still in a state of declared war?)

"They still have this crazy notion that by just being peaceful and maybe toking up or something like that – it's like an ostrich with its head in the sand – maybe the danger and the bad guys will go away and leave you alone, which is not gonna happen." (Rest of the story here, no registration required.)

You know, I think (hope?) most people are inteligent enough to know that we shouldn't just ignore the whole situation, And I'm reasonably sure that most of us know that going over there and just giving them a hug isn't gonna fix it either.

And if the story was the opposite, and he was supporting the protestrs, I'd have as much problem if he had said something like "This is the same government as we had during Viet Nam. They just want to bomb the hell out of the place and destroy it for their own interests. They're stupid."

Neither is more constructive than the other. As I originaly pointed out...we all have the same rights and freedoms. It irks me when anyone does this (myself included), but moreso when you have someone with potential influence over the thinking of so many people. But that just ties into my irritation with people being so quick to bash without having somethign constructive to say, and with the culture of celebrity worship....

I think I've made my thoughts clearer, I know this is significantly different than what I originally said. I left the original text to illustrate the recognition that I was not writing in a very well-thought-out manner.

I end here because beyond this, I become redundant and start to repeat myself.

Rememeber my post about exchanging the skirt at Doors to Africa a few weeks back? (Just scroll back a bit)

I found this comment to the post today...

my name is Roger and I am the manager at Doors to Africa, in Towson. It is almost accidental that I came across this link, but I am pleased to come across it. This is so, particularly because I will make sure to remind everyone that this does not happen again. In deed a customer returning merchandise is a great opportunity to keep a life long customer. In deed our store policy is refunds only as we are a small enterprise with limited inventory and we pretty much do not deviate from it. However I am sure that we could have accommodated you better and I will try to find out a more creative way to deal with such instances. One such idea as comes to mind, would have been perhaps to give, an additional $5.00 in store credit. I know I did not handle this case, so you can rest assured you were not speaking the owner or anyone with the final say. It is impossible to please everyone, however on can give 100% effort, of course some days we are operating at less than 100% and it is good to be reminded that this is so, so we can pick it up. Of course my intention here is not to change minds but to say the complain has been heard and we will try to do better."

I must say, that is really random, but greatly appreciated. I am happy to know that I was in fact not talking to the owner, and that it was able to come to the attention of the proper person. On a related note, I just found the store credit slip in the botom of my backpack about n hour ago while looking for something else. I'll have to stop there the next time I'm in Towson.

I'll stop spamming you folks' friends lists now.

Nicked from [livejournal.com profile] marylith This is far too funny. Safe for work, unless your superiors have no sense of humor. Or if you're not allowed to surf the net. In which case, you probably shouldn't be reading my journal either.

If you do read it, be sure to click on the many linked references, especially the open letter to the school board, and their responses. If you're not too busy laughing your ass off.

[livejournal.com profile] pirateswitters and [livejournal.com profile] slightlymadman, if you're stil reading LJ I think you'll apreciate some of the sentiments expressed, such as

"Global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters are a direct consequence of the decline in numbers of pirates since the 1800s. A graph showing the inverse correlation between the pirates and global temperatures was also provided. This was presumably intended to highlight the logical fallacy of correlation implying causation."

Random surfing yields...

yet another news article. Also does not require registration to view...but back in June, when Billy Corgan released a solo album, he also announced possible intentions to get the Smashing Pumpkins back together.

This isn't really a new thing. The article is from June, but I just saw it, so it's new to me. I'm not going to get my hopes up, but if the reunion of what is probably my favorite band of all time is a future possibility, I will very much look forward to seeing what they do. I saw them in concert in Dallas back in 1997 (Many of you have heard tell of the Matchbox 20/Dave Matthews Band/Smashing Pumpkins/Rolling Stones concert that I went to...the Pumpkins being the only real reason that I was there to begin with. i missed Matchbox 20...wasn't too concerned about that. Not really a DMB fan with the exception of one or two songs...but seeing them live was really amazing. And the Stones...well hey, I can say I've seen them in concert. They did a bang-up job...hell, they've had enough practice. But I'm not much of a fan. Plus, Mick Jagger scares me. And Keith Richards would be the only creature besides cockroaches capable of surviving a nuclear blast. But seeing the Pumpkins in concert...that was reay amazing. Before that concert, I had only really listened to the most popular songs. Their performance of Thru The Eyes Of Ruby...which I had never really listened to before...just blew me away.

The world just doesn't have enough beautiful music...

And I'm hungry.
