Remind me not to do yard work at the Grove again *grumble*

Right now I have so many mosquito bites, it almost looks like my legs are swolen.
Actually, I knew I was getting them yesterday when they happened. But at the time, they weren't bothering me. I've had bites before where they just show up as a tiny red mark, and never itch. That's what they were doing. Flat little red mark, no itch, no nuffin'.

Then this morning I woke up to some REALLY intense itching. The bites are like 4 times the size they were yesterday, and all puffed up.

I know that they're mosquito bites cause I saw a ot of the bites hapen, theyre in the same spots as the little tiny red marks were. It's nothing caused by plants because I didn't contact any plants that would do such a thing. Mostly, I was just watering the lawn with the garden hose.

If I can remember to, before I leave for Delaware on Friday night, I'm going to get some unscented lotion and mix in some clove and tea tree oil (And marigold oil if i can find it, but I'm not counting on that). Clove and tea tree is a combination that will repel bugs (used it before. Not quite as effective as something like Off!, but FAR less yucky. Bug spray is just nasty. Ew.) Maybe I should try to get citronella oil for that too.

OK, must go to store and get something for the bites before I scratch my skin raw.

Bush Chooses Miers for Supreme Court

Who Is Harriet Miers? (Yeah, who the heck is she anyway

High Court Nominee Has Never Been a Judge

"Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, made no commitment, saying he wanted a thorough confirmation proceeding."

I think that's the most intelligent thing I've ever heard of coming from Specter.

No experience as a judge.

Both Planned Parenthood and Anti-Abortion groups are demanding to know her stance on abortion. All 3 articles mention this in some way.

You'd think someone's stance on abortion is THE deciding factor in the ability and worthiness to do a job. Do I need to go into a rant on how people seem to vote based solely on a candidate's stance on abortion?

It *looks* like this one is possibly a "lesser of the evils" scenario. I don't know how worried I am BECAUSE I KNOW NUFFIN' ABOUT HER. I will watch the next weeks with interest.

Except that she's never been a judge. Should the start of a career as a judge be an appointment to the supreme court?

Point Of Amusement: This quote apears in two of the stories: "For example, she's Southern Methodist, notoriously pro-abortion,"said Troy Newman of Operation: Rescue."

It is mentioned elsewhere that she graduated from Southern Methodist University. Is this guy describing her religion? I MIGHT be wrong, but I've never heard of there being a branch of Methodism called "Southern Methodist", and her having attended SMU is not a comment on her religion. (I know this, I went there. Now maybe things were very different when she attended, I can't speak for that. But SMU is not a school that one picks just for the religion, unless you're attending the Theological Seminary. Other than that, the school is very secular, and from what I've read of the history of the school it's always been pretty much that way. [livejournal.com profile] stellthebell or [livejournal.com profile] waterofthemoon can correct me if you see any mistakes in my commentary on SMU.)

You're One Hundred Years of Solitude!

by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Lonely and struggling, you've been around for a very long time.
Conflict has filled most of your life and torn apart nearly everyone you know. Yet there
is something majestic and even epic about your presence in the world. You love life all
the more for having seen its decimation. After all, it takes a village.
