SO. Work today. Yeah. Typical day right? Sometime in the early afternoon, I get an email "Company meeting at 5" And I think "Bonus! So I get an hour off the line for training...and another hour for a meeting."
So 5 rolls around and the rank and file is gathered about the floor, there's a big seaker set up so Stephen (Company president) can hop up on a desk and talk over everyone.
Annnnnnnd he does just that. hops up on his desk and announces...Apples cancelled the contract. Full over at the beginning of may, with layoffs at the beginning and end of March. Layoffs are purely seniority based. Not a whole lot of people in the department that have been there longer than me, and HR told me outright that I'd be one of the last out the door. But im still starting the search right away and also thinking about picking up a part time job for a little while in a bookstore or something for some extra cash.
There will be no severance package. (Didn't expect that.) The company says they will help people as much as possible with finding jobs, including holding in-house job fairs, giving first priority to Apple people for other positions opening in the company, hiring us back when new positions become available, letting people off for any time needed for job interviews and doing away with the rule about job-searching on the net
So...I need to scrape up a resumé. And sleep. Not necessarily in that order. in fact, I think I'm going to sleep now, worry about resumé tomorrow.
