Lots Of Checkboxes
Mar. 1st, 2006 03:19 pmSo I went to Kelly Services today. Filled out all their aperwork. Got handed this semi-intimidating looking 4-page form to fill out...after the first page, it was just a ton of checkboxes and a coupoe of signatures. I got to check lots of boxes for skills. More than I expected to. And write in a ton of stuff under "other".
Also, they gave me a computer software test. They were just going to test my typing speed, and MS Word proficiency since I said I didn't realy know Excel, but I asked if I could do the Excel test just so I could see where I'm actually at in my understanding of it. Keep in mind that I haven't looked at the program in about 3 years and all I ever did with it was catalog my parents' and my own cd collections. I was able to figure a lot of the stuff out pretty easily...I scored "basic" in Excel, which really is better than I expected to do. I was figuring on "atrocious". I scored proficient on Word..which is also impressive cause it's been even longer since I've had cause to use that. And my typing rate has gone p by about 20 WPM since I was last tested when I was hired for the current job...another thing I didn't even suspect...in fact, I've been afraid that it had gone down.
However, its going to be til at least the end of next week til they could actually place me anywhere. They do background checks and I've lived in 2 states other than Maryland in the last 10 years. PA in't a big deal they said, but that I lived in Texas. (That'll show me to put my school address when my legal address in PA stil covered everything...oh well. I'm still employed so a week and a half will be fine.) In the meantime though, they could stil contact me to inquire about my interest in positions.
Oh...and they provide software training. So that will be useful.
So anyway, I rock even more than I thought I did.
