I'm thinking of starting a blog. Separate from my journal, and probably on a service other than livejournal, specifically for the purpose of news/current events commentary.

Think it's a good idea? Or no?

I just don't use it as i intend to and end up posting everyhting here. One of these days i'm going to repost specific posts there as well, but it's not high on my priority list at this moment

I'm lazy, I like everything delivered right to my LJ (and I am not really into syndications). So I'm likely to keep reading whatever I see here, but I'll likely miss whatever you have elsewhere. But, since we just met, I don't expect you to go one way or the other on my account.

I kind of like LJ for the specific purpose of being able to view everyting under one page. Even though I'll generally disagree with what you say, I still enjoy reading it.

I agree with the above. I have an LJ friend [livejournal.com profile] scleroticrings and he does a LOT of commentary. I don't agree with some of it, and a lot goes over my head, but it's true writing, and quite informational. Sometimes he does personal posts, but usually it's more theoretical. I'd be interested in those concepts. If I'm truly interested, I may even comment. *gasp*

I think a separate one from LJ is fine if that's what you want to do, maintain two separate blogs. I work really hard on my other blog and it's a lot of work as you can tell from my declining LJ frequency.

I might suggest Blogger if you don't want to spend a lot of time doing blog administration. I was thinking about WordPress and TypePad, but really, free is fine and Blogger works ok if you aren't going to take this endeavor seriously from a technical control aspect. Otherwise, I'd go with WordPress, but it seems like it will cost you the most of out of the options I looked at.

It's really up to you to ask why you write this blog and if you want these posts to be a separate body of work. I know I wanted to separate out my blog because I needed a focused place for those thoughts and I wanted to stop boring my LJ friends with crap they weren't always interested in reading. I have a peculiar reputation for being rather capitalist and corporate so you can see why that stuff doesn't appeal to a lot of my friends. ;-)

Good luck!

Seems to me it's a matter of intention. What are you trying to create? Is it an intention to separate out interests, to focus in different areas, or to organize your thinking? Or is it for others' benefit?

I like the one "feed" but it does tend to get a bit disorganized!

I enjoy your thoughts, regardless of topic!
