So I've had two balls of Patton's Rumor in Moonstone kicking around and I decided to try to do somethign with it.

I wanted to make a pair of arm warmers, and I wanted to knit them...but funny thign about curcular needles, they don't seem to be easily available in any size but 29", and it's impossible to knit something so much smaller. Well, not impossible- I actually figured out how to do that, but it would take me a year to knit a single round.

So I decided to crochet them. This just isn't working like I'd like it too. The crocheting is turning out so stiff and dense. So wrong to do that to such soft yarn. and I don't like how it looks crocheted so tightly either.

So...I guess I will have to knit on straight needles and then crochet the edges together. Or just make somethign else out of the yarn.

The smallest cable I've got is like 5 inches but I've never made arm-warmers on them.

And also...for armwarmers, I recommend Double Pointed Needles. Or there's a technique called Magic Loop where you can knit on a larger circular needle and you can knit two things at once, such as for socks and armwarmers and the like.

They're really not that scary. :) You're still only knitting with 2 needles at a time.

Magic Loop!

It's really not that difficult once you get the hang of it. I've made a couple things that way.

Hmmm, what size crochet hooks are you using? And what stitch are you using? If you are doing exclusively single crochet, it will be quite stiff unless you're using a fairly large hook (J) AND have fairly fine yarn. If the yarn is kind of chunky, smaller hook (like an H) and a lattice of double crochet/chain makes a funky open pattern that is quite soft. I have done that with fluffy mohair to good effect, and the added space let the mohair puff out. The other thing that would be soft and look cool for arm warmers is a shell stitch.

Just 2cents of completely unsolicited advice...good luck!

hi...do I know you? just curious.

the yarn is Patton's Rumor, if you're familiar with that. It's a bulkier yarn, but extremely soft and not stiff in and of itself.

Doing a combination of single, double and triple on a g-hook. Well, was...i've since pulled it apart. i'm going to borrow a smaller circular hook.

thanks
