Mar. 12th, 2007 03:43 pmI have an idea for a skirt that I want to knit. I theorize that it will be easy, seeing as though if what I'm envisioning works, it would just involve me knitting an appropriate-length tube and then doing a lot of drop-stitching in the end. It would of course need to be worn over something else (I do adore those long, gauzy "broomstick" skirts that loose the narrow crinklyness after being washed and run through a dryer.)
Basically, I want to use drop-stitching in the place of...um...what do you call it when a panel of material is inserted into a dress or skirt to make it flare out...um...darts? Why does that not sound right?
Anyway. This shouldn't be too difficult. Time-consuming, perhaps...but not difficult. I know what yarn I want to use, and I want to use a fairly large-gauge needle. The main question is how long I want to make it- knee-length or ankle-length (I'll probably go knee-length for my first such endeavor.)
Okay. Now I just need circular needles and the yarn.
edit: actually...I wonder if it wouldn't be easier to do on big, straight needles in segments, but not do the drop-stitching until after I assemble it...it would be easier to do a longer skirt that way too than it would on the circular needles. The question is how to shape the drop-stitched segments...arright, I think that's going to involve a needle and thread....ooh, or some ribbon...oh...yes, I think I know what to do here. *dances*
Oh, I am getting some awesome ideas...

Date: 2007-03-12 08:47 pm (UTC)well. I might be able to pick up the yarn and needles when i leave work tonight...the sooner i can do that, the sooner i can start. Hopefully it won't take years. If I can make what I have in my mind happen, I'd like to wear it this summer.
