[livejournal.com profile] curlygirls

We're here to discuss our inner curl and curl care techniques. Of course curly girl pictures are welcome--we want lots of pictures of your locks! :-)

The membership is moderated. You must be a Christian (Protestant) female to join. Girls with all types of hair are welcome to join--even non-curly girls! :-) No profanity or anything objectionable is allowed, of course.

We do not allow people to join who use profanity in their own journals or express un-Christ-like thoughts and behavior. We have the right to refuse membership to anyone at our own discretion. If we cannot determine from your public entries and your info if you're a Protestant Christian female or not, we will leave a comment or email you to ask you.

Far be it from me to tell someone how to run their LJ community...but if a community is supposed to be for girls with curly hair...it seems a dab silly that one's joining the community should hinge solely on their religion.

I'm jus' sayin'.

there's a psycho sect of right wingers trolling lj for pedo and loli, and going extremely overboard in all aspects.

no....according to their info, their community is based on a specific haircare book by the same title...and there doesn't seem to be any religious leaning in the book, from what I could find on amazon...it baffles me.

The pure bigoted idiocy of it just leaves me speechless.

I think I'll set up a community for red-bearded men in which anyone (even brunette women!) can join as long as they are Mahayana Buddhists who used to be Asatruar and are married to Revival Druids. And I'll call it "redbeards" or something like that...

A bit misnamed - should have been "Christian and curly", or something. I think it's perfectly fine for them to make the kind of a community that they want, and if their notion of safe space to be all girly and curly in is to be Protestant-only, more power to them. They are certainly amply upfront about it, so the only bait-and-switching is in the community name.

Yes, I think it's perfectly fine to set up a private community for whatever crazy demographics one wishes. Excluding a specific demographic would make me feel different, and I personally would not want to be in such a space even if I qualified for it, but I see no problem with a community for protestant girls interested in care of curly hair (whether they have it or not), or satanists interested in underwater basketweaving (whether they are weavers or just fans), or the above-cited religion-soup redbeards (or fans of said red beards).

Yeah, silly. That's why I didn't join "bipolypagangeek", either - while they don't require that one be the whole list, and I'm most of it and certainly friendly to the rest, it's just too demographically specific for me.

girls at my (very pagan oriented) work read that curlygirl book, it sounded... interesting. But my hair is not curly, I did not read it. But they didn't mention anything about the book being overly preachy. What is up with that group then?

And I guess that this means the CatholicChristianCurlyGirls are shitrightouttaluck? How unfair is that?

People are strange.
