Students challenge ban on Gothic
School board policy prohibits such clothing
Amaris -- a soft-spoken sophomore who said she'd never been suspended and had never received a grade lower than a C -- argues she has a right to her style of dress. She said her clothing is part of her Wiccan religion, a neo-pagan, Earth-centered faith.Amaris -- a soft-spoken sophomore who said she'd never been suspended and had never received a grade lower than a C -- argues she has a right to her style of dress. it says elsewhere in the article that "goth" is the only style of dress specifically named as prohibited in the dress code. Now, I don't agree for a second that one entire style should be right out and any other style allowed...
but for fuck's sake, people...the Wiccan religion does NOT require that one dress in a particular style. DON'T try to claim that this is a religious freedom issue, it's NOT.
I would like to commend the writer of the article, however on the minimal mention of Wicca and especially not trying to equate all things pagan to Wicca.
