I's a question.

I got my nostril pierced in January. Eight months ago.

Since then, the stud has been out of its hole precisely twice. Er, excuse me, three times after tonight. Not that I want to take it out constantly- I don't. but I'd like to be able to take it out- and more importantly, put it back in- without the pain and torture that I experience.

Basically, I can get it out, it kinda hurts to take it out, but it's not hard. Getting the thing back in is a major project taking upwards of twenty minutes. It's one of those studs with a little hooked end.

The problem is this: when I put it back in, the hooked part doesn't go all the way through my nostril to the other side of the hole. So I have to twist and turn and stick my finger in my nose to try and feel for it which it twists through the middle part of my nostril flesh between the outer end of the hole and the inner end. Of course, twisting through said flesh it hits nerves, which cause pain that I can feel in my cheekbone. But I have to keep doing this until it decides to find the right spot through which to exist into said nostril, by which point it's bleeding.

This is far more painful than having the hole punched in my flesh ever was to begin with, and lasts much longer too.

Is my nostril defective or something???

i would go back to the place where you got it pierced and have it looked at. mine was the same way and they ended up re-piercing it because for some reason i healed "crooked." but the second time was fine and now, while i don't take mine out and leave it out for any length of time, i can take it out and put it back in with no pain whatsoever.

I'd listen to the other poster, but I'd also say that, as someone who has never had a nostril piercing but has had quite a few other piercings, some take a year or more to fully heal. I got the inside part of my ears pierced and it took more than a year for them to stop feeling sore, or for me to easily put anything back into them once they were out. places like your nose and ears and belly button are constantly being touched/rubbed against/moving when you do and take longer to heal as well. I'd also recommend a simpler piercing until then - something completely straight.

With the nostril screw, you can't do the twisty part until you know that the tip of the straight part is all the way through your nose, yes, requiring you stick your finger up your nose, usually. Perhaps the straight end part needs to be a little bit longer for ease of insertion.

Sometimes I would use a straight earring to get an idea of which way the hole went and then retry the screw.

It also helps to use lube.
