Doing image searches on deviantArt both pisses me off and depresses me.

All I want is a few decent deity images and almost all I can find are anime/manga drawings- as if no other fucking artistic style exists, and they're all either so cutesy I wanna vomit or trying to look dark and spooky and just not really going anywhere. Then there's the occasional video-game-designer wannabe.

Oh, come on. I just want a few decent images of my gods that I like and can afford.

Why in the hell must I wade through 134,956 anime drawings ranging from unoriginal and terminally boring to pukingly cute to "ooooh look how spooky I can be" to just plain flat out mind-blowingly stupid to maybe find one or two decent pieces?

Google images isn't much better. But there, it's mostly just reiterations of the same couple of classical statues. Oh, and Battlestar Galactica. Because, you know, Apollo? Try doing a google search without certain words, and it frequently seems like "without" is translated to "please return ten times the number of images of the excluded keywords as before"

I give up. The stupid site won't let me view more than one page of any search right now, so it's even more a waste of time than usual.

I would make the images myself but I would never be able to paint or draw deity images that I would be willing to put on a shrine. Maybe someday if I ever get a computer that can handle heavy graphics programs....

I hear you. Most of the amateur artist sites are overrun with anime and furry shit composed by teenagers.

A google search on just about anything serious these days will always betray you with pop culture crap. Last time I did a search on Mithras, I got a character from a video game.

Just a thought...

But have you tried expressing a need via (a) the Artisan Guild via ADF-DISCUSS or ADF-DRUIDRY or their list; or (b) some known artisan types like their Guild Master, or Seamus ( http://www.cafepress.com/Seamusart ) or Caroline ( http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5024373 )? If they don't already have what you want, they might be able to point you in a more helpful direction, or even take a commission.

The problem with trying to commission something-aside from being able to afford it- is that, assuming I could clearly describe what I want, I would still have no way of knowing if the end result would really be what I want. Annnnnd...it's not really in good form to commission something, look at the end result and say "Nope, changed my mind I don't want it after all."

It could be worse-- you should see what people do to the Egyptian gods. Especially poor Anubis, beloved of furry porn enthusiasts everywhere. I looked once or twice way back when, and decided there wasn't enough brain bleach in the world.

Best bet is to try and use the categories function. It helps to cut down. But really to find the good stuff you may end up going back 50 or 60 pages. Thats how I found most of my Dionysos stuff.

He doesn't have a lot out there compared to Apollo or Zeus or Aphrodite.
